The worst place I've worked, undermined by management.
Senior Drafter/designer (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB1 March 2018
The office environment at BlueStar engineering Calgary:

Strict 8-5 hours, with one hour lunch.

No off project conversation during work hours. Period.

No talking in coffee room or office, no personal calls during work hours.

Undermined by department leads from other groups to make them look better by other management.

My department lead would tell you about the rumors he heard (actually he created) from others about you, to criticize you and make him look better. And totally fabricated stories.

Projects pushed out door without engineer/lead checking them, and they wouldnt give enough time for you to check them yourself. When the clients found mistakes guess where they'd point fingers.

It's not a great environment when owners/management are constantly watching you, and your lectured for any conversation at all, yeah even work stuff.

Benefits and wages were better than E.I. thats about it.

One of the best things I ever did was leave that place. Any guesses why they are one of the only places with open positions right now?

Stay away from this place as best you can. Seriously Run.

Good stepping stone, no reason to stay
Engineer (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB21 February 2018
Small office that is focused on billing and turn around. Not enjoyable to work for. Lots of issues in terms of QA/QC and management takes no responsibility. Very difficult to think these guys will be able to keep up when things get better. Seem like they will stay afloat as long as projects are small and being lean is the best.
Pros
Work during slow times
Cons
Culture is work only.
