Not a team environment. You are pitted against your colleagues. Not welcoming for a person of visible minority group. Very old boy’s club. Salaries are not at market rate. Partners do not have solid succession plans for associates.

Typical toxic Toronto law firm

Partners do not care about you. You’re just a warm body in an office chair. They expect you to work 7 days a week. They do not like employees who work from home or come to the office only between 9-5. They expect you to work 8am-7pm and be in office everyday. They will tell you they offer remote work during the interview but then change the expectations after accepting the job. Partners use group intimidation to make you work more. If it wasn’t for their starting salary, no one would work here or force themselves to stay. VERY TOXIC environment, many better firms out there.

Beware of management. They do not care about employees whatsoever and punish those who dare to request assistance or attempt to address any of the many, many problems present in the firm including a sexism and an apathy towards diversity and inclusion.

Enjoyable atmosphere

Very tough work environment

Very proactive firm. A typical day: check email; open mail; draft correspondence/pleadings; follow up with client/ insurance company/ insured; do dictation; schedule meetings and/or discovery. It's a large firm so there is always someone there to help you if need be. I loved working at Blaney's, it's given me alot of knowledge and experience I need to excel elsewhere.
