big white review
Ski instructor (Current Employee) –  Kelowna, BC22 February 2019
I had never come to big white before but I was very pleased with my welcome I received here. Everyone that works here has a love pf skiing and the management is very flexible to everyones situation. It does not feel like you work in a huge resort because the staff takes very good care of you. However, as a ski instructor you do not get many hours and so, after rent you do not make much money.
Pros
free ski pass
Cons
not very many hours

Great resort and terrain, terrible management
Rental Technician (Former Employee) –  Kelowna, BC13 February 2019
the head manager there made all of the employees feel like they weren't good enough to be there. He has very poor direction and had an extremely short temper. would never again work for BIG WHITE.
Pros
free ski pass

Work for big white!!!
Concierge Agent (Former Employee) –  Kelowna, BC16 November 2018
I freaking LOVED this place. Guest Services is THE department to work in, the manager is amazing and you never know what the day will bring. Concierge is a super fun and chill department, arguably the BEST job on the resort, so many freebies from restaurants AND a free season pass. Would go back in a heartbeat!
Pros
Work Environment, Culture, Fun, Friendly, Management, Freebies
Cons
Low Compensation

Beautiful mountain
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  Big White Ski, BC28 July 2018
Beautiful mountain to live on but minimum wage (under $10/hr after tax is taken) is very very difficult to live on especially when rent (on mountain) at minimum is $700/month, in a shared style with up to 14+ others.
I suggest going with lots and lots and lots of savings, expecting to need to use most, if not all of it to live.
Pros
if you work for BW owned places - season pass is 'free' (although you pay $20 per pay towards it, (if you finish the season this money is returned to you). Ski in & ski out resort is awesome
Cons
min wage, no set roster, not consistantly getting 40 hours, difficulty to get time off to go visit other resorts

Need to fix operations
Driver (Former Employee) –  Kelowna, BC7 February 2018
Operations are sloppy and disorganized. Makes it impossible for people to operate safely and manage vehicles when people are permitted to do whatever they feel like all over the mountain

overall a great place to work
Apprentice Millwright (Current Employee) –  Big White Ski, BC1 October 2017
Big White is a great employer. They treat their staff well and provide the necessary tools to succeed and advance within the company. Work/life balance is not the greatest as you are forced to either live in town and commute or live on a ski mountain where there isn't much to do outside of your job.
Pros
fun place to work
Cons
work/life balance

Tons of riding (especailly on those powder days) and management is fantastic! The mountain in huge and the snow is the best in the world. I would highly recommended Big White to anyone!

Great Experience
Snowboard Instructor, Head Coach and Trainer (Former Employee) –  Kelowna, BC29 May 2016
Working with Big White was a great experience, like most seasonal jobs I have done. It provided good hours and a competitive wage for my position. Short staffing and a very impersonal approach to many things meant that it becomes tiresome, there is no room for professional development as the higher up positions are very set. Any complaints are not really taken seriously from staff, as they are easily replaced for next year. Overall I learnt many valuable things with my time there but I am more than ready to leave and develop somewhere else with new challenges. The co-workers are what make working in these type of places fantastic but eventually the lack of any career progression is concerning.
Pros
Great environment
Cons
Physical job with few breaks in busy periods, illness and injury becomes common.

Easy going, fun place to work
Line Cook (Former Employee) –  Kelowna, BC6 February 2016
A typical day at work is preparation of food item for the day and stock up the line. Work the line for breakfast and part of lunch time plating, and deep fryer cooking, helping refill, and stock up food items.
Afternoon is preparation and portioning of food items, stock up front area cooler, and back area food cooler, and line.
I learned how to use the knives better, and how to operate kitchen machines in the kitchen.
Learned about Big White in general, what is up at Big White, Entertainment, Lodges, Skating, Gondola lifts etc.
Co-Worker were awesome. All of them.
The hardest part of the job is doing the line when it get really busy.
The most enjoyable part of the day is getting set up in the morning, and doing food preparation in afternoon.
The most best part of the day is getting there early mornings and seeing the beautiful sunrise. :)
Pros
Good bosses and co-workers
Cons
long hours
