There is very little that is different about Best Buy Canada when compared to other retail environments. They will often portray themselves as a shinning star of the retail world but can never provide proof and will always ignore any of their shortcomings without explanation.
The work is easy but with little merit for performance. Sales are commission-less so the only tools management have to motivate salespersons to sell add-on packages and warranties are to threaten under performing employees with termination. This creates a negative environment of fear and competition between employees with no positive merit to selling more; like increase pay or commission.
The benefits are great and the discounts are even better and proved themselves to be the best factor in working at Best Buy Canada. Unfortunately due to their blind hooray in calling themselves a shinning star in the retail world is undeserved and is nothing more than brainwashing and led me to give the company a low culture score.
Simply put, Best Buy Canada is nothing special; no matter how much they'll try to convince you. The work is easy but has no merits to performing better and you will always be threatened with termination; fear drives the workplace. Luckily, you'll have a discount and health benefits to help ease the bad employment.
Moved up the ranks over the years. Others got promoted as they were friends of management (drinking hobbies) etc. Those who should be promoted aren't. Beware of GMs in the store as they will become best friends with other managers. Hold one manager accountable and the whole company will fold in and suffocate you out. Hr will not help as they are in bed with the rest of the team .
I started working at Bestbuy early in my University years and worked there for approximately 9 years. By far the best company i have worked for, they are flexible, team oriented and generally a caring company. I worked my way from a seasonal employee to a Supervisor. There is definitely a lot of room for growth and to learn new things.
