The only real way to grow is if someone likes you more than the quality of your work.
Compensation is terrible.
There are a lot of promises, but nothing concrete. Benefits, like discounts, are an illusion.

Best Buy management is so horrible. If I could give it a negative rating I would. All they care about is their productivity and want you to force customers to buy the warranty. They’re quick to fire staff for absolute no reason as well. After working there for two years I couldn’t take it anymore and ended up quitting. Please save yourself the trouble and avoid applying, especially at the Brampton location.

Best Buy Canada is an excellent employer that will help anyone build their interpersonal skills as well as learn how to deal professionally with customers of all kinds. The employee benefits are also lucrative here.

Productive and fun work place with a nice break room and very friendly staff and management
Connected Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) –  Downsview, ON16 July 2019
Very positive and great environment. Had no problems with any coworkers and always enjoyed going to work. A lot of emphasis on selling GSP and GSPAD+ which is where i lacked the ability to execute a deal to get customers to add on features. Management is friendly and likes to joke around a lot as well as the seniors and supervisors. Enjoyable part was to get to see customer walk in with no clue on what to get and see them fall in love with a product that i showed them and decide to purchase it and write a review about how i really helped them out. Learned how to work under pressure and to manage dealing with multiple customers in an efficient and professional way.
Pros
Free lunches during busy times (black friday, boxing day, etc)
Cons
if you don't sell GSP's, your sales performance drops significantly

A corporate monster that will chew you up and spit you back out---all at their convenience naturally
Home Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) –  Calgary, AB2 May 2019
Regardless of any good aspects of the job--your position and job security is never guaranteed. The Best Buy I worked at for over a year fired 10 people all last week and claimed some "head count" issue mandated by the company. Two days later they were hiring new staff for positions that were vacated.

Long story short, if your store isn't performing they will commence drastic measures and even fire an entire staff to attempt to freshen their team and to drive sales. What they end up doing is constantly training and retraining new staff and hacking up team moral by scaring staff into performing.

Honestly if you have any talent...look elsewhere. No commission, poor pay and no regard for staff.
Pros
The discount is the only pro
Cons
Corporate structure, poor pay, no commission, no job security

Connected Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) –  St. John's, NL22 April 2019
The management were so bad that almost all of the former employees left. They used to force us to sell more. And they used to give us hours on our sales basis which is contradictiry
Pros
Awesome discounts and best team mates

Worst Place to Work
Connected Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) –  Regina, SK26 February 2019
Pressure to sell services and warranties. No respect for employees. The only competency to be in the store management is if you can shove warranties in the mouth of customers. Grievance system is useless and management supports the management. No incentive for achieving the sales target.
Harassment, bullying, lack of respect and pressure tactics are part of the culture.
Pros
Employee discounts
Cons
work culture, sales tactics, management

Great for students, not as a career
Connected Solutions Specialist (Former Employee) –  Victoria, BC18 February 2019
Job was initially fun, but quickly became tedious and with the removal of commission lacked any serious ways of providing employee recognition. Management was constantly changing and failed to provide any real structure. Too much division and poor communication amongst management.
Pros
Flexible hours, great co workers, good staff discount
Cons
constant management changes, no serious employee recognition

Best Buy's culture is something to be desired. Training is included, and the culture of the company is instilled in every associate. Living out their mission statements: 1: Learning from challenge and change, 2: Unleashing the power of the people, 3: Show integrity, humility, and respect, 4: Having fun while being the best.

Such simple pillars yet so powerful.
