Extremely toxic environment

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Beattie Stoney creek is not a good place to work. Management does not care about employees mental health. Repeatedly the team complains about appointment flow and yet management demands pushing people to book appointments. Some staff and doctors are kind and knowledgeable but some staff are truly incompetent. On busy days you will face hostility if you try to take a break during a 12 hour day. You will never receive praise for your work and expect constantly being told you aren’t doing enough. Customers are rude and management does nothing to help this. Team leads are disliked widely by staff which does not help. Only bonus is it is good pay even if you have minimal experience. Some days were filled with laughter with friends and the next coworkers would be screaming at each other and crying. Owners are very money hunger and not kind.

Pros

Pay

Cons

Toxic environment, poor management, stressful conditions

Insights into Beattie Pet Hospital

Based on 4 survey responses
What people like
  • Fair pay for job
  • Time and location flexibility
  • Ability to learn new things

Avoid

No work-life balance, always overbooked and understaffed = always staying past your shift and you don't get paid for it. Schedule changes on a short notice are standard practice here. Non-responsive management that provides zero support. Barely any staff discount on products/services, no other incentives. Very poor work culture. Very toxic place that has extremely high turnover rate for a reason.

Pros

higher than average wage at the beggining but then no raises or career advance opportunities, High caseload allows very quick progress in building up tech skills

Cons

everything else. Avoid if you love your profession, burnout and compassion fatigue guaranteed

Revolving Door of Staff

Even after being warned about Beattie, I still took the job. Even after seeing amazing staff be written up and fired for a "negative" attitude or leave because they didn't feel appreciated, I still stayed. Even after being called horrendous names and verbally harassed by clients, managers and the owners, I still stayed. There were promises of support and advancement without absolutely no action. Even if you did reach out to management for support, work related or not, they would hold it against you. A typical day was every member of staff complaining about someone or something that someone else did or said, but then management pretending that the team aspect of work is "better than ever". Staff are treated like "the help". If you have a contradicting opinion than the management or owners, you are destined to fail at this place of employment. If you love working with animals or in the veterinary profession, DO NOT WORK HERE. You will end up hating it and never being able to trust another clinic setting.

"Conveyor belt style" veterinary care

You're paid well to over look broken labour laws and take on extreme emotional stress. Beattie's will euthanize anything, as long as money is involved. There is no work-life balance, long hours. Owners are just there to make their buck, managers are rude, and allow senior staff to bully others, this bullying will continue until they deem you 'likeable' or you stand up for yourself where you will then be written up or fired.

Tough place to work for

Managers are run down but always pleasant. Pulled in every direction. Owners are quick to fire people. They change policies almost weekly if they dont see results in one day.

Fun workplace to be in!

Being able to observe surgeries and have the veterinarians teach you while doing procedures was so cool to be apart of! Cleaning and packing tools was my main task and had fun working with the team of people.

Great place to work if you can handle a fast pace environment

The team at Beattie is great and easy to get along with. The clinic itself can get very busy in the evenings due to walk ins and emergencies. But the team and management are always working together (as they should) to help with the flow and meet the needs of every individual. With it being a large clinic the schedule can often change for the employees, however, it is not because of the managers but usually due to an individual team member. The clinic offers continuing education and benefits.. WHICH IS GREAT! You may read negative reviews online; however, I can gladly say I enjoyed my time at Beattie Pet Hospital Stoney Creek.

Pros

Great team, pays well, fast pace/ never a boring moment, employee advancement opportunities, free continuing education

Cons

Can get busy in the evenings with emergencies, occasionally can get over books, can get stressful occasionally

Wouldnt recommend

You are promised alot more then recieved apon after 3 months long days and fast paced appointments If your not in and out of the inital assessment before vet comes in (to collect medical information) the whole team gets mad BEATTIES DOUBLE BOOKS APPOINTMENTS 3 doctors 6 appointments the owners only care about more $

Pros

Meeting new friends, lots of hours

Cons

Double bookings, waiting times, Main vet tech stands around talking about his personal life instead of caring about his patients

Very stressful place to work

Worse place I have ever worked, the owners and the so called Managers are incompetent, the people who work hard and are devoted employees are stressed all the time, and dont get the proper recognition, so called Management just sit there and let everyone else work then report to Owners that they do all the work, loved most of the co-workers. Get memos from meetings then polices and protocols are then changed again. Schedules are all over the place never know if they will change at the drop of a hat.........l would give a zero rating if I could.

Cons

Very rushed and busy, no personal touch.

Good $ but that's it

Only good thing about this place is your wage will probably be at its highest at this place but everything else makes it not worth it.

You will regret working for these owners

If you are looking for job security & a management team with experience/knowledge this is not the place for you. The owners & management have no regard for their employees. The owners/managers send out new memos/rules almost daily that vastly differ from the one before it and then they themselves don't know which ones to follow. They give no direction or support in your tasks, have no regard for your time (for example will give you a work schedule & then change it the day before & expect any child care arrangements, appointments, etc to be changed at a moments notice or else fear the possibility of being fired). There is hardly any support staff to help you do your job & any mishaps will be blamed on everyone else's incompetence although the workload is unreasonable. I could not say enough negative things about the owners/management of this establishment. They have no business running a company let alone working with humans.
