Targeted Bullying
Deputy Sheriff (Former Employee) - Lower Mainland, BC - 4 December 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedFor the most part all is good. However ; there is a couple malicious instructors whom have a chip on their shoulders and think that the world revolves around them. Outside of the JI , they are very insignificant people who have a very small IQ.
Pros
Structured Work Environment
Cons
Low pay and a couple of ignorant instructors

Stay clear. Awful place to work
Sergeant (Former Employee) - Nanaimo, BC - 21 August 2023
Micro managed beyond belief. If you fit inside the upper managements click then you could have an easy rise to the top. If you don’t then look out. This isn’t a good organization at all to work for. Go police instead, no need to be the pretend police. Sheriff Services put out videos showing what it was like to work for them. The videos didn’t come close to reality, they showed what police do. Another typical management ploy to get people to work there.

Good career
Deputy (Current Employee) - Lower Mainland, BC - 11 January 2020
If you can afford to be a BC Sheriff, it’s one of the best jobs out there. Great people, great hours. The training is as good or better than any law enforcement agency out there.

Overworked and Underpaid
Deputy Sheriff / Special Provincial Constable (Former Employee) - Nelson, BC - 21 December 2018
Absolutely no work-life balance. Work culture is negative as people cannot make plans for personal arrangements due to constant last minute changes (overtime or out of town work). Fentanyl and diseases is a great danger when searching and being in contact with inmates.
Cons
long hours

Comeraderie with line staff is great
Deputy Sheriff (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 22 August 2018
As this is a provincial agency, it is vulnerable to the political landscape. It is also a part of the BCGEU, which is a union that does not favour law enforcement occupations. The lack of representation by the union is very frustrating. The service will always be short staffed as quality people will continue to leave for greener pastures.
Pros
Evenings and weekends free (on the most part)
Cons
Comparitively abysmal pay
