Great work/life balance, benefits, and flex days
Coordinator (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 9 October 2022
Featured review
BC Housing selected this as a representative reviewExcellent company to work for!!! Benefits are great; medical, dental, and MSP. Flex day every 3 weeks which is a bonus. Vacation days are dependent if you're regular full time and if you are it depends on your amount of team members in your department. Management is pretty good and they collaborate with their team members on a regular basis. Lots of working and communicating with other departments to make things work for everyone. Co-workers and colleges' from different departments are amazing. All BCH employees are very friendly and engaging. Work/life balance depends which department you work in. One example is operations department (maintenance) which is a very chaotic and it does not give a good work/life balance when you are on call for a week responding to after hours emergencies Client base is very diverse with different challenges, no day is the same with very rewarding results. Hiring process is a bit challenging for external candidates as the criminal record check takes a month or longer and the candidate moves on to a different employer rather than waiting.

soul crushing
Administrative Assistant (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 2 May 2023
poor management practices lead to unfulfilling work. We are overworked and underpaid. Our contributions make very little impact to our community. There is a 3+ year waitlist for affordable housing. The government internally keeps people in poverty.

A great place to work too hard and still live below the poverty line.
Team Assistant (Current Employee) - Vancouver - 3 February 2023
This company is falling apart. There is a massive disconnect between the "corporate vision" and the execution of the programs. Working in Supportive Housing is like watching someone poor money down the drain that an entire city is camping beside. BC Housing doesn't care about homeless people and they take advantage of the frontline staff who have to speak to the community about the failings of the company.
Pros
You'll make just enough to survive.
Cons
It will kill your will to live.

Great place to get your foot in the door
Applicant Assistant (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 26 May 2022
Management has no idea what they're doing half of the time, they're literally scrambling to get coverage and trying to pass off someone's unfinished work onto someone else who's more capable. Only to create burnout amongst all employees, and all around the office, the morale is quite low. No one is listened to, no one takes your concerns about anything seriously. It takes every ounce of my being to not walk out that door every day and just not come back.

PPH=Excellent co-op environment
Co-op Student (Former Employee) - Coquitlam, BC - 26 February 2022
People, Plants & Homes was a hidden gem of a co-op position while I was studying at SFU. The staff were passionate and well organized, and management for the program was supportive and involved. An excellent experience.

Misplaced and Misguided bureacratic nightmare.
Helper (Current Employee) - British Columbia - 17 December 2021
I do not share the same enthusiasm working for this organization that others have. There is no realistic vision to solve the housing crisis. The bureaucracy and image obsession is a nightmare. Management and the top people in the organization seek to constantly look good and cover any problems by masking it with inclusive language, all the while being the same old government institution it is. Co-workers are a lottery. The Union is useless and non existent. Its a perfect job for those that like to simply obey a master or those who like stepping on others to get ahead. HR just pretends everyone is happy.
Pros
None
Cons
Large obligatory pension deduction, unskilled management, CYA culture, bureaucratic red tape nightmare. Problem masking

Jobs at BC Housing
Great workplace for internships
Application Assistant (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 5 July 2021
Honestly, it was a great place to work for my internship of 8 months. The training was very elaborate and helped me succeed in the position. Excellent productivity was rewarded with promotions to tougher, but rewarding positions. Overall, it was a great 8 months that I spent with BC Housing, and would definitely love to go back there.
Pros
Free union membership, friendly team and coworkers
Cons
None

management nightmare
Business Application Services Administrator (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 6 April 2020
so many unions that it's impossible to get anything done, and what does get done goes through a dozen layers of red tape. Management has no clue how IT actually works, and expects hourly progress updates on status. Training is non existent as that would take time away from the union staff, and there's no training union, so you're on your own.

Positive atmosphere
Communication Specialist (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 13 September 2019
What I love about working for BCH? People. Everyone is willing to contribute his/her knowledge, experience, and best practice to improve the service. At BCH, it's important to grow as a team member, but also as an individual. There are so many resources available at indeed for you to grow.

Great Mission, Minimal Advancement Opportunities
Housing Assistant (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 23 January 2019
-The concept behind their goals is great but the execution is too heavily dependent on outside pressure and management is too reactionary rather than proactive. Loads of micro-managing.

Productive and supportive working environment
Consumer Complaints Officer (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 26 July 2017
BC Housing is a great place to work at. However, for the short time i have been here, i find that there's constant movement of start and my observation is based on limited room for growth. My job is satisfying but I don't feel the impact my role makes on the public we serve.
Over all, great working environment with an encouragement to have a good work life balance. Teleworking from home also provides some flexibility.
Pros
Work life balance, great support from senior management and colleagues are always willing to help

A caring and supportive work environment
Applications Agent (Current Employee) - Vancouver, BC - 19 January 2017
I work at BC Housing as a temporary employee, but the support and care from the supervisory staff is attentive and in-depth. The coworkers watch out for you, and their is a culture of patience and kindness when approaching new hires and seasoned employees alike. It can be tough dealing with client demands on occasion, but the staff looks out for everyone, and the work environment is very positive.
