Better off elsewhere
Driver (Current Employee) –  Southern Ontario5 March 2019
If what you want is a good career, you're better off going to a different rental company. The only real upside to working at Battlefield is your coworkers. You will be treated like you were purposly bred to work at Battlefield. Management is a joke, all they do is degrade you in front of other employees and tell you you're worthless/replacable over and over again. There is no such thing as work/life balance here, good luck getting ANY time off and expect 60+ hours a week and then constant belittling because you won't come in on Saturdays. At this point if you're still motivated to bust your butt and hustle and work way harder then the other employees you will be rewarded with MORE work, (not leaving early) and good luck getting any kind of a raise. Apparently the company loves to brag about record profits but still "can't afford" to give back to those few hard working employees.

It can be a good job under the right circumstances, but make sure you have or make an exit strategy.
Service Clerk (Former Employee) –  Winnipeg, MB14 January 2019
Upper management was all over the place. Middle management ranged from competent at best, grossly negligent at worst. Supervisors are where I'd put my trust in the company, generally very good and supportive.
The mechanics were amazing to work with, mist have great attitudes and all do great work.
Front end staff are some of the true heroes, well them and the drivers, they both take the brunt of management frustration.
Sadly my opinion of this place changed the most when they switched health benefit program to one that made you pre pay and submit recipes (low wage and paying for the plan off of every cheque)
Pros
The positive feeling you get when helping people above and beyond their expectations.
Cons
Wage, overall moral, no recognition for hard work.

Average Rental Shop, Lots of Hours
Technician (Current Employee) –  Southern Ontario10 January 2019
So there are a few points to touch on when it comes to working here, there are benefits and there are drawbacks, a lot of it has to do with your work ethic and also it has to do with how you work with others.

So first off when it comes to work ethic, attention to detail and being able to work at a fast pace while still being detail oriented is a huge asset, and will allow you to advance in the company easily. Complaining and trying to get people to notice you through gloating to managers and higher ups generally gets you nowhere and that's where people make their mistakes, generally management will promote you if you can actually prove your competency.

Now a drawback to this is that even though you can be thorough and very competent in your role, generally you wont see any sort of thanks or rewards in the form of pay or bonuses. In fact bonuses do not happen in this company unless you are salary, and pay raises are generally done via inflation increases (2% or less annually). Sometimes you will see a bump in pay however from what I have seen with other techs is that eventually you cap out and they refuse to pay more.

Upward mobility is possible however it is a long process most of the time. Seems the only way to actually progress in the company is via sales positions. Service side of things can eventually lead to management roles however they are few and far between.

Benefits are great and cover a lot of aspects.

Management in my experience is poor, generally there is a lot of misdirection and no proper delegation of tasks. Things are always left to the last
more... minute, and everyone seems rushed when really things could be done at a slower pace, would probably solve a lot of issues.

People throughout the company seem to be on edge, and can be fairly hostile. However for all the bad people theres an equal amount of great people to work with.

The key here is to maintain a positive attitude and then the job will seem a lot better! Management roles and sales roles seem to be the best positions, labour roles and drivers seem to get the bad end of the stick.

Zero work life balance, everyone spends all their time working, 55 hours a week minimum is what is expected, and they usually expect you to work more than that in service and driver positions.

Just a number (Former Employee) –  Bradford,ON11 December 2018
This work place is for the single life/loaners that have no where to go in life. And like to spend 12 to 15 working, this is the place for you. You like being told off by management and employes that think they are in charge, this is for you. Good luck.
Pros
Pension
Cons
Management, and some front counter staff.

Terrible pay unreasonable management
Driver (Former Employee) –  Brantford, ON8 October 2018
Managers care about their numbers not their employees.
Pay is low for work that you're expected to complete.
I was asked on multiple occasions to over load my truck. CVOR is very poor due to underpaid overworked drivers.
You ll hear how they made record profits and smashed their budget while your getting couple dollars above minimum wage.
Cons
Underpaid and overworked

Customer service (Former Employee) –  Greater Sudbury, ON26 September 2018
If you are a woman, you will not advance at this place. Even if you excel at your job, you won't be able to advance due to the fact that you are a woman. I was told this directly from the district manager.
Pros
I had my own office
Cons
Only female in the workplace, dealt with more than I should have.

Terrible place to work
Driver (Former Employee) –  Barrie, ON25 May 2018
The worst place I have ever worked. Terrible management, terrible pay and long hours. Upper management is awful and they have very poor communication skills. Unless you are a “yes man” you will never grow in the company. Do not work here unless you want to have no life and get paid nothing. The worst place I have ever worked in my life.

Great place to work if you want to have no life and make no money.
Yard Worker (Former Employee) –  Barrie, ON9 May 2018
Staff are overworked and underpaid. At a time when branches like this one are posting record profits, it's management who benefits. Hourly employees are dealt crumbs and expected to be thankful and remain motivated. Their hard work is absorbed by those above them with little to no regard for the real cost of living.

The company preaches a team spirit but the reality is very much the opposite. Communication sucks and accountability is low. Education and competencies don't matter, it's all about whether you're in or you're out.

Bottom line: if you're a young person looking to rely on your wages to go up through hard work, you're going to fall behind here and fast.

Positive and fun place to work
Summer Student (Former Employee) –  Kingston, ON15 March 2018
All the guys are really easy to work with and they are so nice. Really enjoyed working there throughout the summer. The work is very tiring on the body as you dont get to sit down if you are in the workshop and garage. The guys always tried to keep me busy which I enjoyed because I dont like not working when at work. The guys are also very supportive in whatever you choose to do.

Wash Bay Attendant (Current Employee) –  Cambridge, ON2 January 2018
Battlefield Equipment is a leading rental company in southern Ontario. They offer entry level positions and have a good amount of growth potential career wise. A negative would be that the hours are long often work 11-13 hour days and that starting pay is on the low side. The positives would be that it does offer benefits, stock options, and employee discounts.

Decent place to work
Technician (Current Employee) –  Barrie, ON12 April 2017
Decent place to work. Good people for the most part. The variety is nice. Good for someone single as you can work 60 hours a week with out any issues. Don't expect anyone to thank you for getting things done in time for the customer.
Your girlfriend probably will get tired of it as will you when you realise you need to work 60 hours a week just to make a decent wage.
Pros
Fun place to work
Cons
You need to live in your girlfriend's parent's basement

Sales Representative/Account Manager (Current Employee) –  Ajax, ON1 February 2017
this is a very fast paced environment that requires individuals who are able to work with little or no supervision.
I have learned much about myself and how to be better as a person.
Management is very responsive to your needs during the work day.
sometimes the hardest park of the job is keeping organized and up to speed with the pace.
the most enjoyable part of the job is the atmosphere and the people.
every day is a learning day and staff who have been here for over 30 years are still learning

overall great place to work / its a career.
Regional Service manager (Current Employee) –  London, ON1 September 2016
the day starts off with a review & general check over of your work station.
you then learn what went on & what must be accomplished during the work day you are about to begin.
Management works with staff , directs as required.
Co-workers are able to interact during breaks & lunches , as well any time during the day for assistance.
the hardest , or changeling part of the day is looking after customer needs & requirements.
the enjoyable & rewarding part of the job is satisfaction & going home safe every night.
Pros
open easy to work atmosphere

Great company to learn about Construction equipment.
Dispatch (Current Employee) –  Ottawa ON12 January 2015
A day at Battlefield is very busy. We have walking in customers, phone call, and sales staff looking for equipment to be delivered at a certain time which makes the day very fast paced. I enjoy being on my toes and having to work hard both physically and mentally. The best thing about Battlefield is the satisfaction of happy customers.
