Lots of internal politics create a fear-driven culture. Unsafe work site.
Mine Operation (Former Employee) –  Nunavut8 February 2019
Lots of contradicting management styles here, with some managers and supervisors bullying the staff. No one not even HR says antyhing, guess they're too afraid of losing their jobs.
Very poorly organized and still operating as it they are in 1980. Managment doesn't seem to ahve the experience or drive to know how to improve the project which is too bad as its a really interesting place to work with lots of great people.
Extremely high turn over but no one is willing to do anything about it.

Safety is only thought about in a reactive vs. proactive manner, and ut takes a fatality (that's two now in the last few years) for something (the bare minimum) to be changed.

Do not work here if you value your life, the lives of others, or if you want to be treated with respect.
Pros
Nice camp with good food. Great people
Cons
Terrible rotation, travel allowance doesn't cover cost of travel to site, poor management, unsafe work environment. Bullying and intimidation run rampant.

Terrible Safety Culture, Disrespectful managers
Operator (Current Employee) –  Mary River Site, Nunavut, Canada16 December 2018
The new senior engineers, superintendants, and mine managers have a poor safety culture potentially endangering lives of us operators. They put the priority on production and encourage/impact people to compromise on safety directly and indirectly.

Employees are not well-respected in this company. One reason it has one of the highest turn over rate you will find internationally.

No salary increase whatsoever for the last 8 years with years of zero bonus.

Terrible HR culture, always take sides of managers and ignore employees rights.
Pros
Free food but it can make you fat very quick
Cons
Many to list: you are not respected as an employee, superintendants, managers and HR mutually contribute to poor safety culture, rude behavior, mentality of employees are expendable, bullying is welcome, and many similar things.

Punitive and Unsafe
Dispatcher (Former Employee) –  Baffin Island, NU25 November 2018
The culture there is one of finger pointing and fear. Management fires everyone and anyone instead of looking for root causes into issues they conduct witch hunts.
Bullying is also strongly supported there, with HR taking the side of the bully.
Toxic environment.
Pros
Pay is decent
Cons
bullying is encouraged

Unexperienced management
Operator/Labourer (Former Employee) –  Northwest Territories1 October 2018
You eat breakfast, make your lunch, then you head to the dry and put on your clothing according to weather, then depending upon what camp you were at you took a 1/2 hour bus ride or walked through maintenance yard to crusher, then had a safety meeting to address any safety concerns or any changes, did JSA and then supervisor would give out work detail and then you would do your assigned task for the day (12 hour day). Unexperienced management for the most part. Trying to communicate with administration when you were off the island was insane. The hardest part of the job is dealing with the elements (all days or all nights all the time), cold and wet weather all times of the year. The overall experience and the benefits (RRSP program).
Pros
Benefit program
Cons
Harsh elements

Production mine
Operator/Driver (Current Employee) –  Mary River, NU12 September 2018
This place isn't the best, but definitely not the worst to work.
14 day's on and 14 day's off rotation is just great.
Very challenging in winter season..can go from sunshine to a 5 day arctic storm within hour's..
Management is different..production is number 1..they preach safety, won't shut down the haulage untill it's nearly impossible to haul.
Other then that..a good place to work.
Not a job for everyone..you need to be used to camp life in a remote arctic location..
Pros
2 week rotation, time off, benefits, good people to work with
Cons
salary could be higher, bad charter airline, people sleeping in tents, ppe gets stolen.

Office Administrator (Former Employee) –  Iqaluit, NU28 August 2018
First thing in the morning, we would do physical exercises and go through the daily safety training plan and from there do the daily paper work.

I learnt how to to help new people who were hired into the company with the hiring applications.

Interesting experience working in the Northern Arctic
Driver Operator (Former Employee) –  Nunavut30 January 2018
twelve hour days two weeks on two weeks off,
flight in and out scary to say the least,
This is the most northern open pit mine in the world and along with that came the most extreme working conditions you could imagine.

The conditions ie man made 100km long Ore Haul road was nothing short of a dangerous mostly single lane (albeit traffic went both ways) and the weight of the payloads ie B train fully loaded weighed in excess of Half a million pounds beat the trucks and the trailers up severely.
Pros
The experience
Cons
Unsafe conditions, unsafe equipment

Site Services Surface Works Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Mary River Nunavut20 November 2017
A great place to work because of the people and a vast cultural experience. I've been a Site Supervisor for the 11 years I've worked here and deal with all kinds of extensive types of jobs. It is a safety culture that I like and a fast paced stressful at times job. Hardest part of the job is having so much going on at once and having to manage dealing with multiple departments under pressure daily.
Pros
Great coworkers
Cons
long winters and darkness being the high arctic

Pros
Good camp and co workers
Cons
