Great low and mid level management, the PM's have some issues but work hard to help. The installs team are very friendly and help each other out.

The wage is low the raises are low and the chances for advancement are few and far between

AVI-SPL designs & installs audio visual, teleconferencing and video conferencing products, Crestron/Extron control systems, projection devices, large screen flat panel displays and audio mic’s and amplified speaker systems as well as touch enabled display screens – boardroom and large venue display walls & digital signage.

Flexible schedule, able to determine your own direction on projects. Something different each day. Staff events were planned during the year. Hockey fever takes over. Lots of friendly people who are willing to help.

everybody seemed unorganized and stressed out, definitely not a good long term place to work seems like they are still working out the bugs and trying to figure out how to run a AV company

Poor on boarding (isn’t any formal process). Takes a long time to learn the systems , workflows, etc. The CRM is poor and fragmented.

It is a “CYA” Culture. Was told it takes 6-8 months to get fully ramped up but after 2 months, management was already pressuring me for fast results. Expected to be in the office 8:30-5pm.

Typical day at work is pretty much getting your invite for a job-site for the day, loading up and getting to the site. So far, what I've learned is that the Canadian branch for AVI-SPL is basically Sharps Audio-Visual, where the management can basically do whatever they want, and fire you on the spot when you're not in favor with the boss. Workplace culture is basically just work, and you don't get a raise until you actually set your foot outside of the company for resignation. The hardest part of the job is that there is a disconnect with the executives and the technicians, where sales try to up-sale unnecessary equipment to the clients without consulting with the technical personnel and sometimes doesn't make sense with the design for a room. The most enjoyable part of the job is that, all of the technicians are in the same boat. So it's quite a ride.

not a good place to work, poorly managed. nobody ever has a clue what's going on at the shop a bunch of unpleasant unprofessional low lifes. I would seek employment elsewhere

This a company that's all about profit first and employees last.

As there CEO says "i'v had a job for 20(whatever) years because I keep my employers happy and my shareholders happy". Everyone else means nothing to him.


Techs really have it the worst though. They work long hours with low pay, Techs are promised for paid overtime but when they hand in the time sheet, it will get rejected because there is no money in the job. And in the end its the employees that loose. Techs regularly come and go in every branch, which shows what kind of company it is .And always advertising for people, again a sign of the type of company they are.


Seeing a collegue work 70-80 hours a week to keep them happy and only paid for 40. In the end he won a large project only to be rewarded with a group email saying "well done".


There is a lot better AV companies out there to work for. And want you to work for them.


Also you have to pay to attend the xmas party. It will be organized for you, but at your exspence.


Forcing people to quit so redundancy packages are not paid. And put all the blame on projects that dont make money on the last person who quit. Lots of executives like to use this tactic to take blame of under selling a job, and making them look good.


The most sneaky and worst AV company out there,stay miles away.

This is a great team, and am amazed at the great culture. I am really enjoying learning about the A/V Industry. There is a lot of growth right now, which is very exciting to be a part of.

La compagnie à un immense pouvoir d'achat et des liens solides avec plusieurs manufacturiers. Par contre, Le bureau chef basé à Tampa (FL) crée une certaine distance entre les diverses paliers de Gestion. La réalité de notre marché local n'Est pas ajusté dans les démarche de la compagnie.
Beaucoup de roulement d'employé dans les dernier 5 ans et 3 changements majeur dans les exécutifs de haut niveau. Le CEO reste en place, mais cela bouge beaucoup alentour et dans les région. Il semble que c'est plutôt un porte parole pour la firme de finance qui détient l'entreprise.

All talk no action describes them well, they will land big jobs by telling customers what they want to hear but never finish on time and it's usually the employees who suffer because they are blamed for working too slow. Jobs are under bid and they always end up losing money because of it.

Very executive driven company and micromanaged more than it needs to be to the point where all managers seem to hate the execs above them because they are trying to pinch pennies. The execs in the company all think they are cool with their Microsoft Surface and having useless meetings over Skype or Polycoms, if they spent more time working with managers customers things might be better.


As soon as work slows they get rid of employees for whatever excuse works for that day, no mercy and it doesn't matter if you worked there 3 years you will be gone when the money stops flowing in.

The managers don't often come to the worksite with you

The managers are whiney to the point of being annoying, not alpha males at all.

AVI-SPL Calgary is a great compony with great people. We design and install Audio Visual systems and I believe that AVI-SPL Is the best Audio-visual compony in Calgary.

As a contract worker, I feel that I am one of the regular employees doing the Accounts Payable batches for check run every week and Accounts Receivable follow up of outstanding customer accounts and processing of various employees expense reimbursement using Microsoft Dynamics AX system. The system gave me more knowledge of different system that I used in various businesses establishments the past.

AVI-SPL's employer respects his staff. the workplace is safe for the people work there. The HR arrange the fun activities and BBP every year. Also AVI-SPL provide training program for staffs.

Don't want to hear from workers on what it takes to improve and repeats same mistakes from past over and over again.
So much process and politics makes it next to impossible to get any advancement or training.

They have very few qualified people in any position but especially project management. Some would rather talk to friends and family on phone than pick up a call from clients or technicians, totally clueless on AV products and application

Seldom invest in the worker level.

Full busy day, if you are proactive, you will easily be granted more responsabilities,

less motivation at work

employee's interests are not really fulfilled

But if you have a nice team, you can enjoy your work place, and really have fun.
