Event Producer / Supervisor / Ops Manager in Burnaby, BC

Fast paced
There’s always an Opportunity to grow but poor pay for the knowledge you learn over the years. Hours are all over the place but the staff you work with are good people.

not a healthy work environment a lot of micro management
Little to no room for advancement, poor management skills, a lot of micro management, different rules for each tech. alot of pass the buck and blame the installer for failure.

Fast-paced and busy, but great career opportunities
AVI-SPL is one of the biggest AV companies, but there is still a feeling of family and individual identity in the company. In Canada at least, Management seems to legitimately care about their employees and there is a structured career path for every position that gives you a chance to discuss raises and promotions. Can be busy and a bit stressful with the large amount of work they do, but some of the projects are also really cool and are something you wouldn’t be able to do at a smaller AV company. Pay is about average in the industry, but they also have decent medical benefits, RRSP matching and a bonus plan for some positions. They have events like BBQs, charity events, and holiday parties to make it feel like a good place to work. The people are friendly (again, I mostly only know Canada) and managers are always willing to listen. Overall, if you are ok with being busy (but also have good job security) I would say AVI-SPL is a better than average company to work for.

Great company to spin your wheels at
No real advancement opportunities. Internal candidates are often overlooked. Senior management will always play favorites. Huge disconnect between the field operations and the office.
Lead install technition in Calgary, AB
on 19 June 2020
Not bad
Great low and mid level management, the PM's have some issues but work hard to help. The installs team are very friendly and help each other out. The wage is low the raises are low and the chances for advancement are few and far between
