Toxic work environment with unstable upper management
Maintenance Lead (Former Employee) - Medicine Hat, AB - 6 December 2023
Working for ALC is somehow worse than living with them. You will enjoy your coworkers but anybody above you will treat you like garbage. It is toxic and built upon the idea that everybody is disposable, while they simultaneously beg for new workers as they 'can not figure out why people don't want to work here'
Pros
Drive your own vehicle
Cons
Utter lack of job security

Jobs at Avenue Living Communities
Managers treating their employees bias and unfair
Maintenance Associate (Former Employee) - Kings Alley - 30 August 2023
Unfair treatment on the employees by the property managers. Stressful when you are on call and they blame the lower ranks if something bad happens and they take all the credits when good outcomes are achieved.

Fun environment-Good benefits and salary
Accounts Payable Administrator (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 29 August 2023
It has been a good experience overall, will be good if process for the departments get written down so when there are new hires they can reference to something and not be in the guess play

Would give all negative 10 stars if I could!
Leasing agent (Former Employee) - Lethbridge, AB - 25 August 2023
Management has no clue. They don't care about the staff it's all about the almighty dollar. And the policy and procedures change constantly so you never really know what your micromanaging superior expects. This company is one of the shadiest I have ever been unlucky enough to work for. So much of what they expect of you WILL Not sit well with your moral compass if you have any morals yourself. And what ever you do... don't stand up for what is right, for yourself because the minute you do they make it their mission to make your life so miserable you leave or they not pick and fire you for so many ridiculous reasons.... like not answering the phone when you are dealing with a tenant in person at the time!!! Do yourself a favour and save yourself the stress and stay far far away!!!
Pros
Not a single one
Cons
Pretty much everything

Accountant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 10 August 2023
It's a great company to work at. Always busy, learning at the field. This industry is in trend and will always be as we experience a huge migration from other provinces.

Relatively good pay, bad company practices
CSR - Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 27 April 2023
The job was easy, my coworkers and supervisors were pretty nice for most part but you often get calls from people you are unable to help. Bad company practices make this position difficult

Over worked and underpaid
Application Administrator (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 23 March 2023
Avenue Living Communities is not a good place to work. You are used, abused and under paid for the beating you get. If you want to feel belittled, this would be a great place to work.

Not the best place to work
Call Centre Agent (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 3 March 2023
If you’re an empath this is not the place for you. If you care about people this is not the place for you. Avenue Living claims to be all about the customer\residents but they are not. They are basically slum lords with no regard for anyone. Like all big business it’s all about the money
Pros
Working from home n good benefits also fair pay

Don’t do it!
Regional Portfolio Manager (Former Employee) - Alberta - 21 February 2023
I worked for this company for 3 years, worked 10 hour days and sometimes 6 days a week. The bigger they got the less they cared about the residents. We were told that they are going in a “different direction” and by this they meant they will go back to being slum lords. Rotten counter tops are being left “until the sink falls through”, holes are being patched but the walls aren’t being painted, burn holes in carpets are being left, holes in doors are being left, rents are going higher but the quality is going lower. It is a shame, I used to love my job but would be ashamed to put my name on anything they have now.
Cons
Poor upper management

Horrible work/life balance, Company does NOT care about it's residents, they only care about money
Leasing Specialist (Former Employee) - Wetaskiwin, AB - 16 February 2023
When I first started this job, many warned "Avenue Living does not care about what happens in it's properties, they only care about money." Despite my strongest efforts to prove this perception wrong at the center (which I did), head office absolutely does not care about it's employees nor it's residents, to them everyone is replaceable. They do not care about the workload that is put upon you, they do not care about your safety (or the residents'). Despite my multiple complaints to my superiors, they were laughed at and not addressed. Upon going on stress leave, I was not even acknowledged or instructed on next steps by my manager, their manager, their managers manager, or HR. They disconnected my work phone and sent it back to head office a week into my stress leave (way before I even resigned); Talk about destroying the evidence... They also cancelled my benefits while I was on stress leave refusing to cover my EAP for counseling at their cost (you think your company would want you to get better so you can return to work, nope not them). In my time there, I have seen them fire entire departments at a time. Their turn over rate is horrendous. They only care about the numbers and will jeopardize people's safety to get them. Head office changes it's policies so often that they do not know their own procedures, I constantly presented their process documents to them and was told over and over again that I was wrong still. The amount of $ you get taxed does not make the wage worth the headaches that will come.
Pros
Don't do it
Cons
absolutely no work/life balance, high level of security risks that company does not support staff or residents

Great Team Leads
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 15 February 2023
I had a great team lead who was ready to provide guidance. The first three month was probation, they evaluate your role on the number of bookings, call quality and call time. I enjoyed my time here and learnt a lot.

Employees are very well treated
Admin/Leasing specialist (Former Employee) - Spruce Grove, AB - 3 February 2023
Their pay and benefits are excellent. Management is supportive, and the owner sometimes acknowledges appreciation of employees' efforts by offering various incentives. The only reason I gave 3-star for life work balance is because this line of work requires occasional availability on weekends at month-end, and job is by nature very time sensitive. However, that goes for all rental businesses, not just Avenue Living. I would say my personal experience working for Avenue Living has been very positive .
Pros
Pay, benefits, some schedule flexibility
Cons
Very time sensitive work requirements, vacation time included in that requirement

Very disorganized and careless work environment
Financial Reporting Analyst (Former Employee) - 1201 Glenmore Tr SW Calgary - 18 January 2023
Very disorganized company & culture. The manager is just completely useless, who does not care about new employees in terms of proper training, help and feedback. They expect you to learn and know pretty much everything about the job with extremely little to no training or guidelines whatsoever. This company hires people fairly slow, but fire people in no time!!! Highly recommend people to stay away from toxic company like this!
Pros
Absolutely nothing!
Cons
Very poor management and structure! No proper training provided! Require to work overtime! Hard hire, but easy fire!! The list goes on (way too many to list).

Management is super selfish and non-appreciative
Team Lead (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 10 August 2022
Worked here for 3 years. Their tenants always complain about the condition of the properties they own/manage. No job security, you are just a number for them.

Good money and benefits, poor work culture
Regional Vice President (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 3 August 2022
Great compensation and benefits Great Co workers and tenants Good profit share Does provide gas allowance. Benefits include dental, vision and health care spending Senior Management is not qualified. Most senior leadership either family or friends CEO not involved but making good acquisitions. Growth is based on Who you know and nepotism Some of their buildings lack quality and have issues but off late they’ve been buying newer buildings People and culture work from home and barely meet on field employees. Employee engagement and morale quite low as a result. Over all - I feel great organization for investors to invest but lacks employee engagement, not so qualified management with only few exceptions, incredibly high payroll cost because of fat in the organization hierarchy. Management loves to take short cuts as well.

Interesting, mixed bag
Property Manager (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 1 August 2022
Good co-workers, friendly tenants. Good benefits and profit share program. Great incentive and bonus program. Company even sends nominated employees to Hawaii Advancement based on networking, nepotism and/or who you know. Friends and family organization Lot of politics Leadership not in sync with field operations Lots of good people let go without valid reasons
