Tough but rewarding
Special Finance Manager (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 22 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAble to make a lot of money if you put the work in, opportunity to advance come quickly if you are dedicated enough. Can be tough to find work life balance but a little while of hard dedication allows you to reap a lot of reward. Good compensation as well, at least on the subprime side of AutoCan. Can it speak for OEM dealerships.

Jobs at AutoCanada
Terrible Management
Sales Manager (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 7 November 2023
The whole group has really fallen apart, AVOID!!!!! They do not value their employees, toxic, zero job security, terrible org. The head office gives no support to stores and have no clue of what's going on with staff. All trust is given to GM's who aren't trained or supervised. No work/life balance.
Pros
nothing
Cons
Management

Head Office needs to have more involvement in stores
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 1 November 2023
Store was great, had an excellent manager but the GM was really bad. GM pulled some really bad cards and let go of a lot of ppl, Head Office supported him without looking into anything. A good store was turned bad very quickly. So must trust cannot be put into one person.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Terrible job security, they don’t value their people as they state

Mistakes are not tolerated
Marketing (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 24 October 2023
There honestly isn't a lot to say here. AutoCanada as a whole is miserable and sucks to work for. The dealer I worked for specifically had new management and felt like they didn't really know what they were doing. No training provided, lack of communication.
Pros
free dealership coffee

Learned a lot, earned not a lot
Marketing Technologist (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 26 September 2023
There were some incredibly talented people there whom I learned a ton from. The pay was ultimately the reason I needed to leave though. I got 2.5% in just under three years.

Many promises but no delivery
Controller (Former Employee) - Lower Mainland, BC - 23 September 2023
The idea and the framework of a positive corporate culture is there but misses the mark completely in practice. Management motives by berating staff and pressuring them to do things that are considered unacceptable to most automotive groups. When sales are down threats of lost jobs company wide are made in order to try and motivate. The corporate culture is a typical one of climbing the corporate ladder where the top rungs are compensated way beyond their capabilities and the lower rungs are simply expendable and can be replaced. Management does not communicate with staff and prefers to write them up to ensure there is something to lean on when letting someone go. Giving staff a free lunch here and there while management continues to make more and more money on the backs of the workers who are actually doing the work. I would highly recommend steering clear of Auto Canada, they are a company that is only driven by bottom line and nothing more. Job security is only for those that do not consider themselves useful anywhere else. There is a reason the turnover through all levels of the dealership are high, it’s not worth your mental health to be a part of an organization like this.
Pros
None
Cons
Long hours, okay pay, constant pressure and stress

It’s ok
Administrator (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 21 September 2023
Great environment (sometimes). Depending on the people who get hired/stay within the company. A lot of self teaching and not alot of support from management. Employees are never involved in decision making.

Wasteful policies.
Manager (Current Employee) - Canada - 12 September 2023
The amount of money that AutoCanada bleeds on a quarterly basis is astronomical. As a manager with over 25 years in the automotive business, I’ve never seen a company that just throws money away like it grows on trees. Their “policies” are forever changing and make zero sense, so just when you think you’ve got your department on the upswing, they decide to mandate the way to do things and just let money fly out the window..again. It is truly unbelievable.
Pros
A few amazing employees.
Cons
Zero say in operations.

Fun Place to Work
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 19 August 2023
Was a fun place to work and learned a lot about the sales process and how to negotiate with customers. Did cold calling and account visits, enjoyed my time there.

Toxic Management
N/A (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 22 June 2023
Management will happily throw you under the bus at a moments notice. No mentorship whatsoever. Management is petty, small mistakes or non issues and they will keep you down for months to even a year. I didn't recive a single pay raise (aside from after my probation was up) for the entire 2.5 years there. They will always hire external. You'll be given more work but never a promotion. Perpetually understaffed, they continue to hire externally for senior roles while leaving junior roles severely understaffed and untrained. All problems are blamed on junior staff. I personally witnessed 3 fully new management teams in my department over a year. Within a year over half of my department had turned over. Other people in the organization will gladly stab you in the back for even minor disagreements, severe ego issues in senior management. C level goes on and on about worker retention but toxic management continues to stay at the company. Avoid them like the plague.
Pros
Coworkers are excellent, many wfh positions
Cons
Management is abusive, toxic, petty and will stab you in the back. Zero job security. No retirement matching.

High pressure, bad management.
Sales Consultant (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 19 June 2023
Unrealistic sales expectations. Pressure on you to pressure the customer. Cold calling customers who don’t even want calls. Calling same people every day. Terrible inventory. High mileage pre owned and prices are way higher than other dealers. No life outside work.
Pros
Occasional free food
Cons
Long days, high pressure, terrible process

Car Wash Attendant (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 18 May 2023
Work is repetitive at times and can also be stressful. Very hot in the summer so be prepared to sweat a lot. As long as you are working with like minded people, it mat make the time go by faster.

Learned a lot, poor management caused significant stress.
Finance Manager (Current Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 13 April 2023
Learned more than I thought I would. But the work-life balance is garbage, management was trash, and lack of empathy for the stress that was caused by poor management.

Good people, but terrible management
Anonymous (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 28 March 2023
Terrible management and the pay doesn't even come close to market. When will they realize that in order to retain talent, they need to pay them? High turnover rate. Avoid.

High Turnover Rate and very toxic
Product Specialist (Former Employee) - Maple Ridge, BC - 24 February 2023
Save yourself the agony and just look for another job. Poor management, low pay, long hours, no one cares about you but what you sell. I'd rather work at McDonald's

Great staff, corporate micromanages everything, long hours, pay always changing
Sales Associate (Former Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 25 January 2023
Staff is fantastic! from the GM to the sales consultants everyone is pleasant to work with. Very well run dealership with specific processes that are mandatory to follow(which is good because it works). Its owned by the biggest dealer group in Canada so resources are readily available but they are greedy and will kick you to the curb if you don't follow every instruction they give. Corporate is run by a bunch of guys, half of them with no industry experience micromanage everyone including the GM. GM always has to check in with corporate to make any decisions. The pay is always changing , commission structure changes every time corporate finds an opportunity to save money. My pay was changed for the worse a handful of times in 2 years in sales(never for the better). Sales consultants and manager are paid well, finance manager position at 417 nissan is the lowest in the province ( starts at 11%).
Pros
Staff
Cons
Corporate, no work like balance, micromanaging, very stressful culture

Positive workplace!
BDC appointment coordinator (Former Employee) - Airdrie, AB - 8 January 2023
(Former BDC Agent) I am grateful for this job and the experience it gave me! The sales team and managers are supportive and this workplace encourages self growth. There is an opportunity to move up in the company aswell if you work hard for it. I highly recommend the BDC department for students - it’s a great work/life balance.
Pros
Great work culture, good pay
