Repetitive tasks, easy to learn, ok management
Faced paced, trivial work. Learned how to use a knife in the kitchen. Management was incompetent. Hardest part is cleaning up for the last person on shift, the most enjoyable was the meals.
Pros
free meal

Horrible staff retention and turnover - unqualified area managers
Uncaring, arrogant and unqualified supervisors/area management making decisions based on their own agenda and corporate targets. Staff turnover is ridiculous - sooner or later Atria will have to recognize that it's in their own interest to address the retention issue - and that the cause is not due to poor quality staff but poor selection of management and supervisors who seem to obtain their positions based on drinking the corporate koolaide and two faced sucking up, rather than actual ability.

Horrible Management
They do not l repeat they do not value their employees. You are trained for the job you are hired for but you are asked to do jobs you have no training whatsoever so the executive director can save money and they will receive a big bonus in the end. For the jobs you are asked to do with no training if you do not perform as you are expected you will be fired. I mean you will be fired, trust me.
Pros
No pros
Cons
They do not value thier emplyees.

Love the residents, not so much management
Great place for a first job as shifts are only 3 hours, however management is lacking as well as the chefs can be quite cruel and difficult to work with. The residents are amazing and really made this job experience a memorable one for me.
Pros
Residents are amazing
Cons
Bad management and chefs

Existing Resident
It could be a great place to work if regional mangers knew their communities residents needs. This one size fits all American approach to running does not match the needs of the demographics they attract. Local management has to spend too much time meeting corporate timelines, dictated procedures and processes that do not or should not be applied to Canadian tastes and culture. This is not Kentucky or any other US State.
Pros
Great looking building, some good workers who care about residents.
Cons
Too much corporate oversight

Fun place
Similar to custodians and janitors, porters work to make sure that all types of buildings are neat, clean, free from clutter and safe. Custodians spend their days picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, or using industrial cleaning equipment to clean floors, cleaning and stocking bathrooms.
Pros
Nice people
Cons
Late night

Upbeat , fast paced work place
Would usually have weekends. As soon as you step in the door you went and got your float, counted it and started right away.
I learned that every bar has their own tricks and tips for serving .

My co workers were definitely a challenge for me , being new .

I dont feel that there was anything really hard.

The best part of my job was meeting and interacting with new people.
Pros
Meeting new people

The perfect company
Atria is a fantastic organization, everyone is a seasoned industry pro and know exactly what needs to get done. Senior management is great at communicating the vision and provides all the resources required to make it happen, then get out of the way. There is no micro management, everyone is empowered to make decisions and projects get done in record time.

Everyone from the CEO down is approachable and open to alternative views. Everyone will make time available to help when asked and will kindly offer up assistance if they see you struggling.

I enjoyed this company greatly and wish there was more organizations, such as Atria, around.
Pros
Great Culture, Management, Co Workers and Customers
Cons
It got sold to Rogers.......
