Its exactly what you think it is. A struggling restaurant brand with flashes of greatness, but many dark spots.
SERVER/BARTENDER/EXPO/PREP & LINE COOK (Former Employee) - Covington, GA - 7 February 2022
Worked most positions at Applebee's. Upper management is out of touch, local managers are usually cool, and the world is underpaid due to lower menu prices. When I was a line cook, they struggled to pay anyone more than 12ish before I left. COVID probably changed that. Serving was a toss up due to lower check amount, but that also allowed everyone and anyone to enjoy the food. So you'll get broke teenagers, and cheap middle aged people, along with college kids who also understand the struggle, and sweet families. Terrible Sunday Church crows, and very respectful visitors. The food was actually solid IF prepared with love. The issue is at that paying point, it's hard to find people who genuinely care. So more often than not, you've got lazy, dirty people. However, this job actually hires the formerly incarcerated, military, and more so it definitely will give anyone a chance which is one of its benefits.
Pros
"Free" lunch, hires diverse, flexible scheduling, OT if you want it
Cons
Low pay, upper management is out of touch, not sure of companies market
