Relaxed part time gig
Hostess (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 27 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedStand at the hostess station, greet the guests upon entry and show them to a suitable table, roll cutlery, clear tables, split all tips, clean menus. Pretty repetitive work.

Horrible place to work
Hostess/Expo (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 3 March 2023
Only made $13 an hour in Alberta after turning 18. Got $10 in tips per pay. Bad management, ended up having a high turnover where everyone left at once due to management. Management also makes snark remarks. Get threatened if sick.
Pros
Can eat the scraps
Cons
Can get cut randomly, bad pay

Fun place to work part time, pay should be higher
Hostess (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 6 June 2022
This was a good place to work for a first job. I made a lot of friends and learned how to problem solve and succeed in the workforce. The biggest downside is the low pay, but there is a tip pool even if you’re not a server.
Pros
Discounted food, work with your friends, flexible schedule, tip pool
Cons
Some managers are inexperienced, low pay for all the work you do

Fun and well-managed place to work
Hostess (Current Employee) - Moline, IL - 3 January 2021
Love working here I've made a lot of friends since I started. Our management's great and they do their jobs and they listen if you need help with something.
Pros
Just about any time you ask off you'll probably get off.
Cons
Long hours

Poor management
Hostess (Former Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 9 August 2020
Working at applebees was pretty simple. If the manager liked you, you got hours and you didnt get yelled at and could get away with anything. If they didnt like you however, your hours dropped and you were scrutinized for every detail.
Pros
Fun environment, easy work, good customer service experience
Cons
Have to suck up, poor management, catty environment, no guaranteed hours

I really enjoy working with all people and satisfying their needs while maintaining a professional and positive attitude and work ethic.
Hostess (Former Employee) - Niagara Falls, ON - 13 November 2019
On a everyday work basis it was normally casual, some days are busier then others of course but for the most part it was a positive work place and all the employees came together as a team to form the best experience for the guests. Through working this job I developed more patients in myself and the work place, which I can appreciate and use now on a daily basis. I think personally the most difficult for me was maybe on certain days I wasn’t feeling the best and trying to maintain good composure, if I needed some air just to take a load off for 5 minutes I would ask and then come back and I would be okay to continue working. The best part I’d say would be getting a better understanding of people and the workplace it’s self and becoming part of a working team, also I’d be lying if I didn’t say the food was so good !! But overall a good working experience. And I am grateful to have had that opportunity.

Ok for a temp or starter job
Hostess (Current Employee) - Barrie, ON - 18 April 2018
Would be great as a starter job/student job but doesn't give enough hours to be a main supporting job. Managers are pretty flexible and easy enough to work with. Culture is typical restaurant.

Alright expierince
Hostess (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 19 October 2016
Overall it was a decent job , fun and most people were very friendly but the management wasn't very good. On multiple occasions managers would schedule me for days and hours that i specified i couldn't work. i would not go back but it wasn't the worst job in the world.

Good teamwork
Hostess (Former Employee) - Mississauga, ON - 27 August 2015
It was a great team to work with. What I learned was that I like working in a fast paced environment and I am great with customers. The hardest part of the job was keeping up with cutlery rolling and setting tables for 18+ guest. The most enjoyable part was just always being busy.
Pros
discounted lunches

Overall good learning experience.

Applebee's was my first job in a restaurant. The management was not very cooperative with staff issues and made it difficult to communicate with them.
