Work is Fun and has good ambiance

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Staff and managers were friendly and helpful especially to new staff. Has a very clean environment. Good ambiance and tasks were not as hard as long term.

Excellent staff, challenging residents, total lack of managerial skill or insight.

Management stays deliberately blind to the issues faced by the staff so they can feign ignorance when called upon to address issues. Amica has an amazing staff which is shown no appreciation or actual recognition for the incredible jobs they do. Amica talks a good game, but the proof is in the doing and they fail across the board. The leadership refuses to own their failures and shortcomings but is more than happy to lay the blame anywhere they can. When Amica was a luxury retirement home it was the best in the industry, it was an exciting invigorating place to work. This is no longer the case as the company is now primarily focused on real estate development as opposed to resident care.

Pros

Good, caring and genuine coworkers.

Cons

Total lack of respect for the duties performed by an overworked and unappreciated staff.

It depends who you are working .

Right now it is heavy residents now . I learned a lot from former management but our new management has a favouritism And doesn’t accept opinion from their staff specially on my side that I know some stuff about management . The DOW doesn’t listen and accept opinion from the staff . The most enjoyable part of my job when you know

Absolutely terrible place to work

Provide barely any training, always short staffed and managers are extremely toxic. Most people working there are students who are just there to make ends meet for the time being. We would always run out of stock because management can't order the products we need (juices, cereal etc). They will pull you out of your current job to take on other tasks/ jobs so expect to never leave work on time. The residents were lovely and it's sad that they pay so much for such bad service.

Recently, we took steps to improve the dining experience for our residents at Amica Dundas. Many new team members were hired and several current team members received updated training to optimize dining for those working behind the scenes and the residents enjoying service. These changes have been well received.

They do not follow their own values.

Unorganized, demanding job, zero positivity, only negative, management is so out of touch. Workload is extreme. Too many patients for little nursing staff. No support from DOW. Suggestions get shot down. Management only cares about MONEY, not the patients.

Fun place to work

Good place to work. Love the residents. Some of the management shouldn’t be in positions of authority. Staff are really nice and the residents are amazing.

Very Misleading

Was informed upon being hired of the expectation of the position, only to find out the reality of this position was five times greater and more stressful than informed. Training Nurse looked clearly fed up, insisted I take med pass and help on the cart two hours into the shift. Was told I was "not just going to stand and watch "..This was a first training shift, and I think the word they are not familiar with is called shadowing. The staff leger shows staff who have been fired and are still in the system under the call in schedule platform of the computer for reasons unknown, so the call in scheduling module is very confusing. Was told there would be full staffing on the upper 7 floors and still had to make rounds on each floor because they do document and announce the fall risks and the current falls on each floor, which was totalled to be approximately 25-30 residents. For one Nurse to take on a building of this magnitude with various conditions spread all around the building is not good, and borderline dangerous. Go elsewhere if you can.

Pros

Beautiful facility, very clean, very well kept

Cons

Job demands for one person not acceptable

Supportive positive work culture

Having been a nurse for over a decade I’ve worked at various retirement chains in different capacities. By far Amica has a reputation of caring for its team members. That was the main reason I decided to accept their offer. I have to honestly say that they have lived up to their promise. This is the most supportive and forward thinking retirement chain I have ever worked for. Being in the health care side of it there are certainly challenges and challenging days that we have all been more aware of like recruitment and retention but when things are hard your not alone. You have people to lean on and to ask for help. Happiest I have been in YEARS.

Negative atmosphere due to running short handed everyday.

Extremely heavy work load due to being under staffed. No appreciation for the the staff that are there and show up everyday. This is all due to lack of management and now that there is new management and we are now unionized their hands are tied. No one that is hired wants to stay due to a negative atmosphere that you feel when you walk in. It's too bad because the residents are just lovely and I do like the actual job .
