Don't look at getting ahead...
Line Worker (Current Employee) –  Belleville, ON17 March 2019
They will promise you the moon to come on board, but the opportunities for training and advancement dry up quickly if you are an employee on the floor - no matter your experience or qualifications.

Management is a bit messy. Production supervisors are often apathetic and have to be the conduit from a management team that doesn't really understand that their production targets can't be met without proper staffing, equipment, or enough raw goods. They try to fill positions, but are afraid to cut loose workers that can't do the job properly or even focus on food safety. Kind of sad, really.

Best part of the job is the people on the floor as they work hard and are generally welcoming and fun. Worst part is the realization that you mean little to management and that you're just a cog in a wheel. You could show up every day and be a superstar, but it won't really get you anywhere.

Good for a short-term gig or if you want something relatively low stress, but don't expect to advance.
Pros
Great people on the floor, lots of hours if you want them
Cons
No real chance to advance, bad blood between managment and union members

Temp
Temporary Worker (Former Employee) –  Belleville, ON6 December 2017
Don't go work here as a temp, they will let you go hard worker or not without 48 notice. Some of the people here where very genuine except for most of the older people they where very rude to us " temporary " workers.

Enjoyed working at Redpath Sugars. Treated employees fairly and there was always room for advancement in the company. Unfortunately the business closed in my area.

I had to work 3 rotating shifts which rotates every week.
Production Assistant (Former Employee) –  Crockett, CA21 November 2012
The pay was very good. But working on 3 rotating shifts was not good for my health. You may not be fully adjusted to the work hours whenever shift rotates and the job requires to be alert because I was handling machines that can be dangerous if you are not alert.
Pros
good money.
Cons
requires 100% alertness when operating those machines.
