Life Insurance Agent
Life Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 17 July 2018
Not a job for everyone, you are promised a lot of things, go through insurance licensing at your own expense. Given pages and pages of sales script to memorize. Once all that is done, you are given about 20-40 leads for the month to work off of.
You can expect most of your leads to be recycled leads from people who have already had someone try to make a sales pitch to them, a bunch of numbers will be dead, and you will likely not be able to set up more then 1-2 appointments a week. Of the appointments you start with a 40% commission on ALP but you can expect virtually no pay until you have your sales script memorized verbatim, even then your pay is not guaranteed.
With a lot of time spent not getting paid you could eventually build a business off of this, gathering referrals to eventually create a clientele, however that could take years if at all and you can expect little to no pay and little to no referrals or sales off of the leads you are given, even if you become very very convincing at delivering their sales copy.
The real money working for this company is made by management, they earn income off recruiting people and get a % of the income from the people they hire. The majority of the people hired will turn over because it is very unlikely you can make a living off the sales for anything more then barely minimum wage if you work non-stop 80 hours a week. They hire people 4 days a week. It is possible however to make a living through AIL, a few people have done it within the company and have been very successful, but it is a very rare thing to see, it is usually -
Pros
Nice People at the meetings
Cons
Bad Pay unless you are extremely talented at sales, or get into mangement

Way more work than a regular job
Licensed Insurance Agent (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 25 June 2018
A typical day at work is working hard and not getting paid unless you make a sale. I learned that this job was not for me. Management is multilevel but you can go above your "supervisors".

Opportunity Unlimited! (at a cost)
Sales/Marketing (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 28 May 2018
Yes, the sky is the limit! But to most there is a cost to this and that is your TIME and DEDICATION.
Do not be fooled, this is not for a faint of heart and it is absolutely a test of your character and determination. If you have a fear of rejection or failure, then don't bother wasting your time!
Purely commission based sales and full of freedoms but would not recommend this to anyone currently living on a tight budget. This is essentially an opportunity to start your business and be your own boss which all sounds great but do not go into debt for the purpose of chasing a dream! At least not until you are financially stable otherwise you will crack under the pressure and have nothing to show for it.
Excellent peers and mentor-ship but they can only carry you so far.
This will take A LOT of time and personal financial investment to gain momentum to reach the top but if you can afford those things then go for it!
Pros
Leadership, mentors, flexibility in personal schedules
Cons
A timeline to success "affordabilty" that can be unrealistic to most people

Great Company to Work For
Supervising Sales Agent/Manager (Current Employee) - London, ON - 9 May 2018
It's can be extremely long hours. Time commitment is great for single person with no little kids. They work with you to succeed. They give great advice. Hardest part of the job is losing evenings and weekends. Most enjoyable is the paycheque.
Pros
High Pay Potential
Cons
Long hours

not for me
Insurance Representative (Former Employee) - Calgary, AB - 24 April 2018
Not for everyone and should be able to keep another job until you can build up sales and know that you won't struggle financially to pay bills while working with this company.

If you have the ability to work full commissions
Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 22 April 2018
If you have the ability to work full commission jobs than this will be a good fit with lots of room to grow. They give you the speech that what they want you to aim for is to become a manager and upwards and they do mainly focus on union leads so it is a lot easier to make money than any other insurance company out there.

productive
HR Assistant/Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 20 April 2018
a typical day at work is pretty easy going. I learned a lot while working in the company. The management is very hands on and they train constantly. Its a very diverse place and everyone gets along. The hardest part of the job was dealing with complaints from clients regarding their policies however, I did enjoy working with everyone to resolve issues. These are learning time.
Pros
you make your own time
Cons
stressful when it gets really busy

Hard work can lead to huge rewards
Career Agent (Current Employee) - GTA, ON - 19 April 2018
My main issue with AIL is their product and how they sell it. You walk into people's houses under false pretenses (to give free benefits or child safe kits) and then start selling insurance. And they call it "warm calling". Actually its worse than cold calling. With practice and time a person can succeed. But their target customer is blue collar workers and if you happen to end up in an upper middle class house, best of luck to you!
Pros
With hard work and time, you can make a lot of money
Cons
Long hours initially if you want to succeed; product selection; products not competitive

Very sales driven environment
Benefit Advisor / Supervising Agent (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 18 March 2018
Purely commission-based job which was not disclosed at the beginning. However, people I worked with were great. They taught me a lot. Job is not easy just like any other sales job. However, if you are good at it you will be very well rewarded. It teaches you to set goals and achieve them and fight your laziness and emotions. Great to experience, but I don't think I would be able to do all my life.
Pros
Work at your own pace
Cons
No money security

Extreme pressure telemarketing and sales
Benefits Councillor (Former Employee) - Nova Scotia - 14 March 2018
Not a place to work if you have conscience.
You call people who have already been called dozens of times by the company to arrange an in-house appointment.
When you book yourself a day in an area, you then go and extreme high pressure sell people products, that the company works very hard not to honor their agreement with the clients.
Pros
Lots of income available
Cons
Looking yourself in the mirror

Best in Class
General Agent (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 March 2018
American Income Life is a great place to work. The environment is conducive for advancement and the workplace culture is outstanding.
You control your own future by how hard you work as opposed to how long you've been there.
Pros
Unlimited opportunity
Cons
long hours

Helpful people and great culture
Supervisor agent (Current Employee) - Richmond Hill, ON - 28 February 2018
It's not the job for everyone. It's tough at front. You need a good manager to lead you and then you can go out by yourself. My manager helps me with many issues, even when Im in client's home. After 3 months you become a union member with good benefits. There is minimum payment for each week for 720 in Richmond Hill agency as long as you present 15 clients, even if you don't close any business.
Pros
Flexible working hour, minimum pay 720 each week
Cons
Too much drive

meat market avoid at all cost
Career Agent (Former Employee) - Halifax, NS - 27 February 2018
This place is a veritable meat market, they encourage you to lie and to cheat to force "at risk people" the ones who can't really afford new policies to buy them. High pressure tactics, intimidation andoutright lies are the norm and are in fact encouraged. The weekly "meetings" are nothing less than indoctrination. This company wants you to sell to your family! I could go on but suffice it to say stay away from ails at all cost
Pros
none
Cons
omg too many to detail
