The most useful review selected by IndeedIt has quite a dynamic culture, receive lots of support from the people around you. However, sales is sales and it can be quite draining and there is always a high turnover

Great Opportunity
Supervising Agent (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 12 April 2019
Great company to work for! Managers and mentors provide all the training and support to be successful. Love going to work everyday with the family dynamic, and have created long term friendships. Great opportunity and unlimited income potential as long as you've got the work ethic and put in the hard work.

Working at American Income Life has opened doors I would have never have opened. To be a part of a Family is great.. yes I said Family.. going to work every day is not a job when you feel at home and everyone in the office is there to help and support you.
Pros
exciting down south Conferences..

Amazing opportunity and environment
Management (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 11 April 2019
This career is amazing. The people are awesomely diversely weird...in an amazingly silly way. But that's just us having fun. We know how to be serious and know our jobs well. I love that we spend our days protecting families and making sure children are safe.
Not only do we get to reach unlimited income potential doing what we love but we make friendships that last a long time as well.
Pros
Income, friendships, independence.
Cons
Have to stay accountable to yourself.

Truly "Opportunity Unlimted"
General Agent (Current Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 10 April 2019
Lots of room for growth.

Only promote from within the company.
Rewarding career.
Flexible schedule.
Makes me feel great knowing that at the end of the day, more families are protected.

100% effort and attitude will determine success!
Manager (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 10 April 2019
American income life Edmonton is a fantastic place to work. Unfortunately it is hard to find good people with the work ethic and attitude that it takes to be successful. I’ve worked with amazing people that are easy to work with and people with poor attitudes who don’t last long in this industry. For the right person this is the absolute best opportunity!
Pros
Opportunity to work for yourself, balance
Cons
Lots of work in the beginning to set yourself up long term

not bad, not great
Manager in training (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 April 2019
definitely not what I signed up for. was told and thought that I was being hired into management but the structure of the company has everyone selling there product. if u leave your pride and conscience at the door and work hard....... really hard then you will be successful.
Pros
nice people
Cons
not great company structure

A good company
Supervising Agent (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 4 April 2019
Good company if you can fit well into their culture. Roam for advancement. You have to be prepared to work long days for the first few months. Every office is also ran differently.
Pros
Good benefits and commission
Cons
Policies can be expensive

Great workplace with great people, very supportive.
Licensed benefit specialist (Current Employee) - Ottawa, ON - 2 April 2019
Best workplace i’ve ever been in, amazing people that are always extremely supportive. Flexible hours with busy life, great opportunity for advancement. Type of career that you can retire after 10 years of work, and write your own paycheques based upon your own hard work. Couldn’t have found a better career, very happy I was lucky to be welcomed into the family at AIL.
Pros
Flexible hours, you decide the amount of money you want to make, achieve it, amazing people, constant support, many opportunities for advancement
Cons
Personally no cons i’ve seen in the entire year I’ve been here.

Productiver work activity
Sales agent (Former Employee) - London, ON - 27 March 2019
This was a term of co-op for me to experience cold calling and outside sales. This was an unpaid position which made my experience different from the rest. Non-the-less, it was a great learning curve for my overall work capability and stability within my relationships with co-workers.

Great management and staff, very team oriented
Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 18 March 2019
My manager at this company was fantastic. Unfortunately I couldn't handle making cold calls and wondering if I was getting paid week to week. This is a commission based job only, so if you are seeking job security look elsewhere. They offer really great benefits and it is great for someone looking for a competitive field.
Pros
Create your own work hours, great people to work with
Cons
No financial stability

excellent place to work
Benefits Specialist/ Insurance Broker (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 14 March 2019
coming from a sales background i would say this job is challenging but worth it. training is provided and you can learn how to make $1000 in a day. you make your own schedules and get to work with like minded people.
Pros
great incentives
Cons
gotta use your own car

Terrible
Life Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Surrey, BC - 11 March 2019
If you're looking for a family friendly job, this IS NOT IT.
You are required to do hours and hours of training with no pay and then they just toss you out there in the world on your own with minimal practical skills

good product, poor work environment
Agent in training (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 1 March 2019
Long long days 10 am till 10 pm minimum. 6 days/week.
Learned that making money is not as important as my integrity.
Leaders here have zero people skills.
Good at first. Then honestly found most were bullies.
Hardest part of the job- beginning learning curve.
Most enjoyable part- talking to people and getting them what they need.
I was humiliated in front of the entire office and told by management I was making a 'bad life choice' (asked to not go to training as I had been crying- training was 1hr and repeatable)
Pros
possibility of good money
Cons
long hours- no integrity

good job. bad management
Life Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 11 February 2019
you are promised the world during hiring. Management is typical salesmen who can't tell the truth to save their lives. Advancement is not based on performance. It is based on kissing butts.
Pros
salary
Cons
management

Great Culture
Supervising Agent (Current Employee) - Burnaby, BC - 8 February 2019
It really is an amazing place to develop sales skills and make a good living if you have time to grind and master your craft. If you are only in it half way... This wont be the place for you. Overall, a great place to work!
Pros
If you work hard you can make really good money
Cons
If you dont have a strong work ethic... This is not a good job

Hard work will pay off
Life Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - London, ON - 29 January 2019
not what I expected, after paying for courses and license I saw what the job actually entails. lots of "cold-calling", independent, long hours, commission based.
Pros
supportive

Not a preferred place if you are family oriented
Benefit Advisor (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 21 January 2019
no work and family life balance. Need to work late hours to meet families and if lucky would end up with a sale. if not the workday is not fruitful.
