The most useful review selected by IndeedIt has quite a dynamic culture, receive lots of support from the people around you. However, sales is sales and it can be quite draining and there is always a high turnover

Read before you work here!
Career Agent (Former Employee) - Canada - 2 July 2019
I began my journey with AIL being told I would make 40-60k per year or more depending on how much work that you put into it.
The job originally sounded appealing because they preach that you will have work/life balance and that "family comes first". I was looking to work for a company that has a family culture. However that is completely NOT the case. To rewind I had originally applied on a job recruiting website and was called a day or two later to schedule an interview. I showed up to the interview and was surprised to see that there were 20+ other candidates. They stated that they were running behind so I waited about 1 hour before sitting down with the person interviewing me. After the initial interview if they liked you they herd you into another room for a "competitive interview" which turned out to just be them telling you how awesome AIL is and how it will change your life and how the opportunity is endless. It was not an interview at all just the head manager of that office telling you how lucky you are to be "chosen" for the competitive interview, videos about the company basically brainwashing you into thinking you are stupid if you don't join. I ended up being there for about 3 hours and wasted a majority of my day sitting around waiting for the "next step". I ended up being chosen to move forward and was told that I would need to purchase a Life Insurance License (over $230) and had to complete it within 2 weeks or they would not pay for my Provincial exam (Over $100). I rushed to complete it and was told that during that time I also had to be present at the -

glad I took the chance
Agent (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 14 May 2019
Applied to the company after seeing how well a family member was doing. I was skeptical at first, but now being a licensed agent and out in the field it all makes sense. It is not as easy as I thought it would be, it requires a lot of hard work, and especially at the beginning some fairly long hours. More importantly the people within the office, management and mentors make all the difference in the world and will help you succeed in any way they can.
Pros
Financial freedom, amazing culture, incredible mentors
Cons
Hard work, sometimes long hours

Worth it
Benefits Representative (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 8 May 2019
This company provides benefits I wish I had been offered when my children were young. The process of learning to get your insurance license and training to become proficient in the field is hard work, but definitely worth it. Not many jobs provide the income potential of this opportunity or the flexibility to set your own schedule. I really appreciate the mentoring and training, as well as the supportive family feeling of the office culture.
Pros
Helping others
Cons
Takes a while to get licensed and trained

great place to work and great people to work with
Insurance Agent (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 3 May 2019
I was pretty skeptical when I first took this job because it sounded like it was too good to be true. Yes I had to pay for my insurance license up front, but now I am a licensed agent. With the mentoring and the teaching culture that surrounds everything that they do not only have I learned to become a better agent I have become a better person. I also have the opportunity to mentor others and it is really fulfilling to know that I am helping other people more than I'm helping myself. There is a lot of hard work involved but at the end of the day it is always worth it
Pros
mentoring, great pay, making a difference
Cons
long hours, hard work

Great place to work overall... great people!
Supervising Agent (Current Employee) - London, ON (Newbold) - 30 April 2019
It is app to use to make the work-life balance but implementing some good time management skills. The people there are amazing, the recognition from teammates and management is unsurpassed, the commission is some of the highest I've ever seen as well as yearly renewals. You definitely need to be organized, self-motivated, and eager to always learn.
Pros
Great culture, great pay, great people, opportunity to grow and advance is quickly as you want to as long as you do the work
Cons
Long hours, late night phone calls

Amazing Experience.
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - London, ON - 24 April 2019
The definitive nature of American Income Life is the motivating culture that resides throughout the company that establishes a positive, energetic, driven framework for individual and company success.
What is most enticing part about working with AIL is the endless career advancement. Your income and promotions is performance based. The harder you work, the more you earn, the further your career advances. They provide you with all the necessary tools, training and resources you need in order to succeed; all you need to do is put in the effort.
The culture in the London office is a rare breed of family and professionalism. Everyone is very close, yet maintains focus and works well as a team.

A great next career!
Agent (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 20 April 2019
I was employed in the industrial sector for 35 years. I worked extremely hard, but was limited in how far I could go, based on a very competitive work environment. Compounded with daily stress of the work atmosphere, I was very much ready to retire and seek other opportunities.
I am very excited about the opportunity and potential that AIL Edmonton is providing. The management is both supportive and positive! The team feels like family as everyone is there to support each other. Yes, you do have to work hard; but through hard work, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn / teach, the opportunity is truly unlimited.
The products offered by the company are there to help families, and you feel good about delivering a product which provides this.
Best of all, I can work under my own schedule. The company fully endorses you building your own team and provides lots of training to help you reach your goals.
Excited about the potential with AIL Edmonton!
Pros
Positive work place with lots of opportunity!
Cons
Should work at least one day of the weekend, but you control your schedule.

Good company if you can fit well into their culture. Roam for advancement. You have to be prepared to work long days for the first few months. Every office is also ran differently.
Pros

Cons

Great management and staff, very team oriented
Insurance Agent (Former Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 18 March 2019
My manager at this company was fantastic. Unfortunately I couldn't handle making cold calls and wondering if I was getting paid week to week. This is a commission based job only, so if you are seeking job security look elsewhere. They offer really great benefits and it is great for someone looking for a competitive field.
Pros
Create your own work hours, great people to work with
Cons
No financial stability

If you want opportunity over security
Sales agent (Current Employee) - Halifax Regional Municipality, NS - 1 November 2018
I have been working here a few months. I had a few friends who were enjoying their jobs and enjoying the work and making good money so I spoke to some of the managers and was hired. Its full commission and I am fine with that, I was looking for something that I could work hard and move ahead. I was sick of not advancing at my last place of work. If you do the work and follow the training you will succeed. Its perfect for me because I'm ambitious and want to make a lot of money, this for sure wouldn't be for everyone.
The management are very good at what they do. The top salesman in the whole company works at the same location. The work culture is fun and progressive.
Pros
great training and management
Cons
Not for everyone, gotta be ready to work

Invent your own future
Regional Manager (Current Employee) - Winnipeg, MB - 20 September 2018
This company taught me so many lessons in leadership, management, and sales. The culture was incredibly competitive, intense, but at the same time everyone helped each other. Family oriented is the best way to describe it. Your pay is a direct reflection of your efforts. Most enjoyable part was getting to surround myself with amazing driven people.
Pros
Pay, Travel, People

Master General Agent
Master General Agent (MGA), Ottawa, Ontario (Current Employee) - Waco, TX - 26 August 2018
Managing and administering a team of Insurance agents.
Culture is controlled by you because you hire agents and mentor them through pipe-line until they are fully released independent agents that are working on building their own team!

Way more work than a regular job
Licensed Insurance Agent (Current Employee) - Edmonton, AB - 25 June 2018
A typical day at work is working hard and not getting paid unless you make a sale. I learned that this job was not for me. Management is multilevel but you can go above your "supervisors".
