Good management, poor leads
Benefits representative (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 27 April 2023
They talk about warm leads & easy sales which is not at all true. You will get a lead pack , half of them are old and contacted multiple times. Rest half leads has no idea what they signed up for. People ask for a child safe kit online and end up being a lead in this insurance company.

Very challenging but rewarding
Field Sales Manager // Calgary (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 11 June 2019
This job changed my life, you really have to be ready to face a lot of your fears with this job when it comes to working strictly commission based salary and having uncomfortable conversations with people.
You sell life insurance, which is hard to sell in and of itself but having to talk with people about their own mortality, financial impact of death on the family and what happens when someone gets seriously hurt in their family is HARD and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE to do.
Although very hard to do. this is one the most important conversations you can have with a family period and if you can get over yourself and your own emotional inhibitions about doing it
IT PAYS REALLY WELL and the benefits are great, full dental full coverage for prescriptions.
There is a bit of a learning curve in the beginning where you don’t make any money so if you can’t cover you bills and live for a month without a pay check I wouldn’t start this job just yet.
Great management, one of the best training platforms ever.
I grew exponentially as a person and as a salesman at this company and the emotional fortitude required to be successful at this particular job really bleeds over into other areas of your life
Pros
Great commission and bonus structure
Cons
If you can’t set boundaries you won’t have a solid work life balance

not bad, not great
Manager in training (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 8 April 2019
definitely not what I signed up for. was told and thought that I was being hired into management but the structure of the company has everyone selling there product. if u leave your pride and conscience at the door and work hard....... really hard then you will be successful.

Not a preferred place if you are family oriented
Benefit Advisor (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 21 January 2019
no work and family life balance. Need to work late hours to meet families and if lucky would end up with a sale. if not the workday is not fruitful.

Pressure to Upsell!
FINANCIAL ADVISOR (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 13 November 2018
You are pressured to upsell all the time and have to give an account of your time by entering your activity in their computer app. You are a captive agent so you don't get to keep your clients and you can only sell their products. There is a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle. There is an opportunity to earn a lot of money however you will be on the road a lot. When they have their meetings with agents, it is usually finished in the middle of the afternoon so when you have to go and see clients you're hustling through traffic! By the time you're done, you are coming home late at night. If you complain, they say you're not working hard enough.
Pros
Great Training
Cons
Long Hours, Micro management of your time, Commission Sales Only.

AIL is a great springboard
Supervising Associate (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 15 August 2018
AIL is a place that you gotta be committed to if you want to succeed. Other than that it is a great springboard to learn many useful skills to bolster your professional repertoire.
Pros
Great learning
Cons
Long days if you want to succeed

Very sales driven environment
Benefit Advisor / Supervising Agent (Former Employee) - Toronto, ON - 18 March 2018
Purely commission-based job which was not disclosed at the beginning. However, people I worked with were great. They taught me a lot. Job is not easy just like any other sales job. However, if you are good at it you will be very well rewarded. It teaches you to set goals and achieve them and fight your laziness and emotions. Great to experience, but I don't think I would be able to do all my life.
Pros
Work at your own pace
Cons
No money security

Hard work and earn a lot
Senior Benefits Advisor (Current Employee) - Toronto, ON - 11 August 2017
AIL is a life insurance company that provides benefits to Unions and its members. Upon confirmation, you become unionized. The job of a benefits advisor requires long hours of visiting leads provided by the company. It is a fast paced environment as you have to earn your pay. The job is 100% commission based and this is stated at the beginning so don't expect it to change.
Pros
Ability to earn more than the average worker beacuse you are provided leads
Cons
Long hours

Worst insurance company
former agent for two weeks (Former Employee) - Toronto - 13 February 2015
1. Everything coming out of a manager's mouth is a lie. It is so ingrained that they can't even tell you the truth about something basic, like how long it will take to drive from A to B. (Like we don't have Google Maps and GPS).
2. Very shady way of booking appointments with clients. They tell the client that the union boss says the meeting is mandatory
3. Poor pay plan for the agent. I snuck a peak at the paychecks of experienced agents and many were making about $600/week. Their commission rate is a fraction of other insurance companies
4. They want you to work 7 days/week. Coming in to make phone calls, they don't count as work or a work day. This is your day off, coming in to make calls. Nice day off.
5. Products themselves are inferior to competitors
6. Management is ignorant of the industry in general, unaware of financial services laws and rules
7. The Financial Services Commission of Ontario should be ashamed of themselves for allowing a company like this a licence.
P.S. I ended up in another company where I worked my way up to over 6 figures so I know what I'm doing, I know the business and I know how to sell.
Pros
If you want to obtain a Life licence, tell them you will work for them, let them send you through the course, and then quit and go with a legit company.
Cons
Everything
