Meh...it's alright
Administrative support (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 5 June 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAHS is a corporation just like the other corporations. They protect the higher ups and dump on the front line workers. Its a love/hate relationship but most of us didn't get into healthcare for the corporate side, we got into healthcare to help people. If you're a lazy worker - the union will protect you. If you're a hard worker - you will get overburdened with workload, they won't ask you about it, they'll just add to your workload and expect you to do it all.

Learned little and harsh criticisms
Anonymous (Former Employee) - Anonymous - 1 June 2023
A typical day at work including checking emails and calling clients. Sometimes I go out and check different places. The management acts as if they were supportive, but ruin some people's future by making harsh, one-sided and unfair criticisms and references. Management is unsupportive and disrespectful. They would not listen to my concern/input. The colleagues are quite helpful. The hardest part of job is to earn respect and trust from the management
Pros
Supportive colleagues, great paid
Cons
Harsh management, no empathy of new workers

Good hospital
Management is either hit or miss. My unit manager was awesome, supportive. Workload can be a lot due to short staffing like every hospitals do. Coworkers are generally supportive and nice.

Not good
Medical Transcriptionist (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 30 May 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Nothing good about this organization, unless you are out-of-scope. Then you can switch departments like changing your underwear whether qualified or not. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? See previous response. After 18 years of dedicated service they are using the excuse of advancements in technology to terminate my position and outsource the work instead. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Garbage unless you are in the upper echelon What is a typical day like for you at the company? I used to work from home for 14 years and now they are quiet firing union employees y putting them back onsite.

A mixed bag
Sonographer (Current Employee) - Alberta - 25 May 2023
The high acuity of patients is interesting and great for building skills, as a life long career working in public healthcare, it can be difficult to manage the stress and there is always some level of burnout.

Lots of opportunity for work as a registered nurse in the surgical float team, even working casually. Great benefits, learning environment, and helpful staff.

You Stay for Your Colleagues
Manager (Current Employee) - Alberta - 10 May 2023
It’s Okay depending on the area you work. I find even in a union environment there’s a fair bit of nepotism. Aside from 1 mandatory learning course about Canada’s Indigenous people, I feel there is little done in the way of inclusion and diversity.
Pros
Dedicated staff
Cons
Disorganized, reactive

It’s ok depending on the department and your manager. My manger was great and my coworkers were fine but there are issues like every large company. I enjoyed working there

Concise and to the point
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 3 May 2023
Very busy unit, lots of skills exposure, very supportive workplace culture. Hardest part is keeping up with the dressings, discharges, and admissions. Most rewarding part is helping people get better and seeing them go home!
Pros
Shift Premiums

Productive workplace
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) - Calgary, AB - 30 April 2023
I learn something new every day…. Big changes in the organisation and communication seems to lack to those of us dedicated to AHS. I can rely on accurate paycheque
Pros
Steady job
Cons
Cancelled shifts!
