After the first 3 years, pay significantly improves. The salary is basically minimum wage up until then. Opportunities for advancement and overtime work. Minimal supervision while at work. Work with like-minded, energetic people who enjoy passion for travel. Must be prepared for daily challenges in a customer service environment for a low-cost carrier. Excellent work-life balance (working 80-90 flying hours/month) with enough time off for part-time job or school. Excellent travel benefits. Health benefits. Unionized

If you desire to go to mainline Air Canada it's ideal to start with Rouge. You keep your seniority when you transfer, but the flying is much better at Rouge even if the pay and advantages are a little less.
Pros
Travel, fun, flexible schedule
Cons
None

This job is a lifestyle, it is not one where you can expect to make a large income in the first 5 years of working there. It gives great benefits as far as flying opportunities and health care, dental etc. The best part of this job is the co workers you get to meet and the amazing destinations you will fly to. I overall loved my experience of working there for the travel lifestyle alone. The management isn't the most positive experience, and there is for sure a negative culture within the company. If you can manage to steer clear of some of the toxicity in the management environment you will have an amazing lifestyle. Again, just don't expect to make big $$ while doing this job in your first 1-5 years.

- Hourly rate is great (after training), however you will work many more hours than paid for due to the nature of this industry
- Training is EXTREMELY stressful. More stressful than obtaining an undergraduate degree as I've done both. Content is not super challenging to learn

- Amazing opportunity to see the world, even parts of it you may not have had interest in before. Hotels, transportation to/from airport, per diem - all provided

- Great way to meet so many new people and make new friends

- Amazing travel benefits - very very cheap!

- Can have from 10 days to 20 days off in a month - schedule is flexible, especially as your seniority grows

Air Canada Rouge is a fun and fast-paced environment with the opportunity to lead a wonderful workforce and work with a great management team. As a small company many of the silos that exist at bigger companies are not apparent. Everyone is super nice and make everyone feel special.

Be prepared. It’s a harder job than it seems. The pay gets better. The uniform is comfy. The opportunities are endless. It may be hard to be on reserve at first. It may be hard to manage work/life at first.

Be diligent, communicative and attentive to the details of the job (Service Training, Safety Training, On/Off Board Procedures). Study and absorb the information!

This company is very disorganized and inconsistent seemingly right from the highest to the lowest level positions and no one does anything about it. The training is not adequate and supervisors don't have the answers and don't support the flight attendants or instructors. The managers have no leadership abilities or training and I question whether they even know or understand their roles. People who "don't fit the culture" are fired without reason and yet the managers don't even uphold the standards that they preach about, basically if they don't like you they will find a way to fire you. They have 4 quality standards that the managers don't even uphold, all they care about is saving money and cutting costs, even at the cost of safety. To advance at this company you need to know someone, and that's exactly how everyone in a supervisory or managerial role has gotten to where they are. Doesn't pay as well as other airlines either.
