Good place to gain installation experience and customer experience

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Good place to get hands on experience with a variety of flooring and customer experience. Teaches you to manage time effectively and read paperwork plus good experience in obtaining your own supplies and material as needed to become fully self sufficient.

Horrible place to work

Where to begin with this run down company, first of all they rip off the installers up and down they don't pay them some pay days, they have huge money problems and lie to customers non stop and make the employees / reception to make up a story on why there material is not there. Management yells and smashes his phone on the daily,DO NOT WORK HERE

Highly Unprofessional Company

Action is an absolute disaster. They are unorganized, unprofessional and badly managed. The GM has outbursts like a two year old on a daily basis. He is not an effective manager. He takes no responsibility and will throw his employees under the bus for situations out of their control. The company struggles to pay their suppliers and can’t get material on time. Management then blames their suppliers or worse blames their employee by telling the client they forgot to order it. It’s embarrassing how underhanded and unprofessional the management team is. It is an extremely toxic environment. The owner and GM frequently bully and belittle their staff and continually make terrible business decisions. It’s nothing short of a miracle that they have managed to stay in business.

Unsafe

My day started with my supervisor telling me to move 6ft or 12ft steel beams by myself, This would continue until instructed otherwise. Usually i would have to use a pallet jack to load the truck we were provided with, followed by unloading the truck when we arrived at the old warehouse. Every now and then i would be told to do a different task when i had no work at the moment, such as opening boxes with a steak knife or being forced to drive a truck without a licence. I did not learn much at Action flooring. they promised that i would learn how to learn a forklift within the first week of me being there, however they never told me how to drive it. The management was very odd. The owner had a dog without a leash with him at all times, he had a very cut and dry mindset, often asking for tasks to be done by impossible time limits. Such as having to clear out the entire top floor of all debris and garbage within an hour. or having an entire section of the warehouse torn down and free for renting by the end of the week. Most of the people working there were quite pleasant to talk to. Whether it was one of the sales people or one of the people in the warehouse, they approached people with a happy tone and were quite pleasant to talk to. However, my supervisor would verbally abuse me in order to do tasks, such as threatening me to drive a truck without a licence otherwise i would loose my job. The hardest part of the job was staying safe. Workers are not provided with gloves, forced to climb racking, transport dangerous goods such as propane, move extremely heavy objects -

Don’t do it

This place will suck the life out of you. It is a miserable, negative environment to be in. You will get little to no training and be expected to figure out how to do things on your own. Everybody talks about each other behind their backs. Everything is dis-organized and nothing runs smoothly. This place is a complete disaster and if you want to keep your sanity, STAY AWAY.

Needs a change in management.

Most of the staff are generally enjoyable to work with, and there is always work to do. I learned a lot about the flooring business. Good hours, though overworked and pressured in various ways. Training is basically "sink or swim". Management requires serious improvement. They display poor attitudes including rudeness, arrogance, favoritism, impatience, and uncontrolled anger. It is painfully obvious, even to clients, that they do not have formal education in workplace management.

Pros

Decent wage.

Cons

Extremely poor management.
