biggest issue and I know its still going on today is there are people that have been there a long time and are in positions they do not deserve to be in because they have no idea the environment techs have to work in . And as being on the contractor side of an CNRL site you have sup par treatment compared to CNRL staff. That may be out of Acdens hands but as someone going to live in a commissary living and how little upkeep there was on the contractor building was a shame .

This was a very challenging office to be a part of. Management was very unclear of expectations, no real training or guidance and comparable to a high school atmosphere will lots of drama.

Working at ACDEN is very challenging but enjoyable place to work. I do recommend ACDEN to other job seeker because they give a fair treatment to each and everyone who worked in their company. Being a part of their company, I can say that I've learned a lot on how to managed our time properly. Yes, cleaning is hard for us senior, but if you will think and feel positively your environment even your co-workers, nothing is hard for us.

Long Hours for local 14+ a day with bus. And no compensation. This is a Local company that supports FIFO for some odd reason if your not part of a clique your an outcast , expectations are impossible to meet and pay is not nearly satisfactory ,safety is low key with many incidents. Pros- met some Amazing people and lifelong friends ,7 days off , cons- Poor management . Avoid this place like the plague

Work alone. Work fast. Get yelled at. Poor safety culture. High turnover. Employer of last resort. Management team is unconcerned with good Buisness practice. Lack of concern for Acden brand evident over and aver again.

Work safe, follow procedures, adhere to company's policies and you'll be fine. Being able to stay at camp throughout the job was very helpful and it ensured that workers were able to report in for duty when required to do so.

No tools for the job, hard to get PPE, extremely long bus ride, management are useless, high pay but they take every chance they get, working during holidays, little overtime RRSP plan is only 1000 a year. Communication is really poor.
Pros
It’s a good shift if you are local to fort Mcmurray
Cons
14 plus hour days with the long bus ride, paid for 11.5 hours

Management is by far the worst I’ve seen. They favourite certain people. Communication lacks greatly which results in not fully understand possible tasks at hand, but management will jump down your throat if it’s not done their way. So in other words you need to be able to mind read. Assign tasks with unrealistic time goals. Would rather see you fail then answer your questions. You must love picking weeds because that’s all you do in summer Will not talk to you directly, will go through 2-3 people and then management gets upset when information is wrong. Women get paid less then the men and management acts stupid and pretends they don’t know what’s going on. Repetitive tasks. Men get all the work. If you wan to make good money for doing nothing this is the place
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Management, favouritism, poor communication

Worked as a machinist at Acden Lemax for several years and it's possibility one of the most poorly managed and dysfunctional companies I've ever worked for. For starters, it feels like it's independently managed separate from Acden, if you have any issues with management at Lemax, good luck getting any support from HR at Acden. Going to them just puts a target on you back. Management of Lemax is it's greatest weakness. The operations manager loves to manage with fear, and loves to threaten people with their jobs. In the shop, he watches everyone on security cameras and will write people up for everything. Also he engages in nepotism and favoritism by employing his wife and step son and also close friends. The work itself is varied with a mix of cnc, conventional and field machining. When it gets busy, good luck getting a day off because you could be busy for weeks and weeks non-stop. Lemax also doesn't operate shift work like almost every other outfit in the oil sands, it's Monday to Friday. If you work in the field, driving time is free and you're paid 11.5 hours for a 12 hour day at site (unpaid lunch). The pay is ok compared to companies outside of Fort McMurray but low compared to other companies in the region combined with there being no pension or bonuses. The guys on the floor were great and it used to be a good place to learn but many senior staff have exited due to management so there aren't any advantages to taking a job at Lemax.
Pros
Co workers, but many experienced guys have left
Cons
Management, pay, no work life balance

Current management has made the higher positions tough to grow into with qualifications that most of the current employees don't have and wouldn't have been required when they first started 2-3 years ago. This makes it difficult to compete with outside applicants when new positions are posted.

As long as you get your job, done you will do ok. And show up on time. They really do not like people being late, and not showing up. If you are going to be late, or miss work call in.
