Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Bolton, ON23 October 2018
Enjoyed my time there until the last couple of years. Started as Manager of Track protection for Go Transit exciting and challenging. Grew from 28 flagman to 110. Set up all procedures and scheduling.

Learning Opportunities Galore
Administrative Assistant/Receptionist (Former Employee) –  Sherwood Park, AB5 April 2018
I've worked with Universal Rail Systems, the head office for all of the sub companies such as A&B Rail. I worked with the company's major departments such as Human Resources, Accounts Payable's, Payroll, etc. The staff were very friendly, & extremely helpful. There is a lot to learn & great learning opportunities within the company. The staff are more than willing to help you & teach you. I ended up learning so much with all the different tasks/duties I ended up doing. They have random lunches where you get to interact with each other & learn more about what each person does within this company. I highly enjoyed my time here.

The only con is that the company is a bit disorganised but but that's mostly due to the A&B company itself & not as much as Universal Rail.
Pros
Friendly staff, lots of learning opportunites
Cons
Disorganized

Not the greatest
Labourer (Former Employee) –  Alberta4 February 2018
Worked there for a couple months, very hard work and long hours I enjoyed that aspect, but when it comes to management it's a joke, as well as supervisors a lot of lying and back stabbing. It would be a good job for somebody who likes a "high school" environment.
Pros
Good wage
Cons
Management, supervisors, formen

Worked 1 day and had to claim WCB
Labourer (Seasonal) (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB8 July 2017
One of the worst companies I have ever worked for. They worked their labourers like dogs. No breaks, was told by the crew not to bring a lunch. After doing their orientation you would think you're joining a good company but just like every other railway contractor they only care about themselves.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
6-1 work cycle out of town, No breaks, No lunch, highschool mentality amongst the crew.

A positive environment with a 'hands on' owner
A/P Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Sherwood Park, AB7 July 2017
By hands on owner, I mean someone who expected professional results from his team and was not microscopic in seeking out those results. His door was always open and it was rarely required as the team he compiled relied on each other -- still. . . his door was open.

Operator (Former Employee) –  Sherwood Park, AB18 June 2017
This is certainly a physically demanding position that may require you to be away from home. There is opportunity to receive additional courses that will assist in your advancement with this company.

Good money, Terrible company to work for.
Trackman (Former Employee) –  Richmond, BC19 April 2017
Management treats workers like lesser beings, Co-workers are down to earth, understanding people outside of work, but the stress the foreman put on everyone due to management being penny pinchers, made it almost intolerable. Never have I experienced such a shady employer quite like this one. If you can, DO NOT WORK FOR THEM... they don't even allow legally mandatory breaks. ONE 20 minute lunch break if you are lucky.

Good money and experience. Long hours and lots of travelling
Arc/Thermite Welding Foreman (Current Employee) –  Prince George, BC9 January 2017
This job is not for the faint of heart. Its hard work in all weather conditions with long hours and your constantly away from home. That being said the money is good, your continuously learning new skills and if your motivated there is usually room for advancement depending in what field your interested in pursuing. Overall if you don't mind travelling and working hard in the great outdoors and like making lots of money this job is for you! Just be prepared to work hard.
