Overwork, under pay
Material Handler (Former Employee) –  Montréal, QC22 July 2019
If you want to work 10-14 hour days in wtv weather, left worked like a dog under paid (13$/hour) for VERY physical work... this job is for you... Should be for nobody. They don’t care about you. Your life becomes this job. P,s: THEY WILL TAKE YOUR TOOLS IF YOU BRING THEM IN. They obviously don’t have tools you need for the work. Worked in the ville st-Laurent location
Pros
Breaks between jobs
Cons
Long hours. Super heavy lifting. Minimum wage. Unsafe

Low pay for very physical work
Labourer (full-time) (Former Employee) –  Edmonton, AB31 May 2019
They entice you with all these extra bonuses you can receive for completing extra jobs and saving gas money etc.. But it comes out to very little money. I started at 14$/h before the provincial raise increase. I was making this while moving couches, deep freezers, fridges etc out of peoples basements.

More physical than a lot of trades yet they pay you like a McDonalds worker.
Pros
Friendly young guys working there
Cons
Management doesnt care about anything except money

1800 Got junk is a great job with great benefits. The staff and crew members are charismatic and passionate people who truly love what they do. The best part of this job is being able to work outside and meet new people every call we make. 1800 Got junk is a great job and i would 100% recommend this job for anyone looking for independent and outdoor work with a great staff and crew.

General Labourer (Current Employee) –  Lachine, QC23 April 2019
Working at gotjunk has been a great experience so far. the workers are friendly and the clients are great. the pay is good with all the bonuses you get, the managers try to keep the day as good as possible for you. the uniforms are pretty nice and the trucks are convenient and good. some days are hard and some days are slow, but in all the work is amazing, and you never have to go to the gym.
Pros
great coworkers, good pay
Cons
long days, dirty work

Good place to work if you like physical work, something new everyday. management does not care about you. sometimes slow days sometimes crazy busy
Truck Team Member (Current Employee) –  Saskatoon, SK26 March 2019
Hauling junk is what it is no complaints about the dirtiness of the job (occasionally gets a little nasty) . Management however does not care about you at all, Call centers book jobs based on receiving their commission not availability of the truck team members so some days have no jobs and other days are too busy to even handle. and no benefits at all
Pros
different everyday, travel around the city a lot and meet lots of people
Cons
no benefits, bad management

Great work environment, amazing co-workers, and great money
Driver (Current Employee) –  Toronto, ON1 February 2019
I started working here 6 months ago and it’s definitely the best job I’ve ever had. I’m making more money than I ever did while having loads of fun every week!
The managers and work environment is so chill and relaxed, which is extremely rare and so refreshing.
All in all I can’t think of any negatives for working here as long as you work hard and stay positive you’ll do very well here and make a ton of money.
Pros
Guaranteed raises, fun company events, 4 day work week
Cons
None

It’s fine at first but once you get to know the owners things changed for the worse.
Truck driver (Former Employee) –  Nanaimo, BC6 January 2019
It was fun at first yoh meet new friends and do some traveling. The work is hard and tedious on the body. No perks what so ever. Long hours. Tell you your full time and then they start cutting your hours hiring way to many people.
Pros
Not much to pro about. Some of the people I worked with are cool.
Cons
Long hours owners getting mad if you work overtime.

Unreliable hours, bad pay and management create an unfulfilling job experience.
Truck Driver (Current Employee) –  Vancouver, BC1 August 2018
After working at 1800-GOT-JUNK for a substantial amount of time I can confidently tell you to look elsewhere for employment.

Your average day will consist of intense manual labour in extreme heat (at least in the summer), potentially dangerous jobs in which you will be pressured by higher ups to “get the job done” for the revenue (of which you won’t see a penny of), and no scheduled breaks (and your schedule will often be jam packed with ridiculous routes) and with the little free time you get you’re expected to advertise for the company, whether that be door hangers, signs or waves. You will only be making 14 an hour base wage which the boss thinks is too much and is always looking for opportunities to pay you less (cutting shifts, hiring a manager who’s main job is streamlining “overtime management”). Many other similar junk companies start at 16 (what you cap out at with 1800) and go upwards into the 20’s. You make profit share but it’s hard to get on it and it’s mostly negligible. Workers have been there for 8 months without profit share. Most of your extra money comes from tips which are unreliable.

Your shifts are routinely cut often without even a few hours notice. Despite being scheduled for 4-5 days a week you can often expect to work more like 3. The management sees you simply as disposable “contractors” and don’t care if you need to pay rent or make money for school. Most of the higher ups in the company wouldn’t last one day on the job but find it easy to tell you what to do (ie keep your polo tucked in after a 4 hour disgusting job in a tiny shed) on your
more... route while lounging on a comfortable chair in the air conditioned office, eating fast food.

The company is also very reluctant to fire the bad workers despite having overhired and instead will cut the shifts of the good workers. The best part of the job is the guys you work with and the off chance that you get a relaxing day with good tips. Overall you’re much better off finding a job at another junk company such as 505-JUNK.

Really good people, aim to learn and improve
Truck Driver, Trainer (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON13 June 2018
The people that work there are great! People are not perfect but they try and truly care about one another, even on a personal level. The days are long but the time goes fast. If you like having control of your day, new experiences and meeting new people around the GTA you'll fit right in.
Pros
breakfast snacks, lots of contests for results and cool prizes, bonuses on performance earned daily
Cons
weekend shifts maybe required, long days but only 4 a week.

Truck team member (Current Employee) –  Calgary, AB27 May 2018
Probably the most under-payed job I have done. Would not recommend unless you want to do backbreaking work for next to nothing for a salary. They tell you to try to up sell the customer and the whole business model is shady.
Pros
driving a truck i guess

hard work for little pay - no scheduled breaks at all

Unreliable fulltime workplace
Field team member (Former Employee) –  Toronto, ON22 May 2018
At 1-800-GOT-JUNK? You got a lot of great guys to work with in the field. Hard working great and nice personalities, the truck team guys are the only positive other then that, when you first start the management looks nice but once you finish probabtion its a different story. You get paid $11-12/hr (which should not be allowed) depending on you're position with profit share which sometimes isn't much and does not bring your hourly wage that much higher. Management doesn't listen to you. You work 4 days a week with hard hours and long hours and sometimes you have non-paid on call shifts more times in a week then shifts you actually work, even if you are full-time you may not get the hours you should get for full-time work.
Can't make money on slow days. And have to deal with things such as bed bugs and working in bad weather, holidays and all trucks are just dirty old trucks.
You find out a day before what hours you work and never know what time you will finish. Schedule is random and rotating.
No benefits until after 1 year.
Pros
Great group of truck workers
Cons
Long hours, bad management, bad scheduling and set up.
