Full job description

Masco Crane & Hoist has an immediate opening for Journeyman Welder to join our team. The successful candidate will play a very important role in the manufacturing process as it is a vital part of our manufacture of various steel projects including skids, overhead cranes, and other fabricated systems.

The Journeyman Welder will be tasked with performing grinding, cutting metals of various steel products, reading blueprints, calculating welding dimensions and carefully welding to produce high quality finished products. The Journeyman Welder will work alongside trained Red Seal Electricians.

Duties and Responsibilities, but are not limited to:

  • Manufacture of various steel products such as skids, jib cranes, overhead cranes, and other steel products.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures to project specifications.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
  • Weld components to manufacture various steel products such as skids and overhead cranes.
  • Weld metal components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions eg. vertical, horizontal, or overhead (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and MCAW process).
  • Operate tools & equipment such as overhead cranes, gouging equipment, torches, grinders, angle grinders, and sub arc welding machines to prepare parts for welding.
  • Follow weld procedures to ensure quality products are manufactured at all times.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
  • Producing top quality products while meeting project deadlines.
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs as required by Masco Steel.
  • Clean up shop and worksites from hazardous or obsolete material.

Job Requirements:

  • Journeyman Ticket with at least 1 year Welding knowledge & experience is required.
  • Experience within a fabrication environment
  • Must have experience in operating overhead crane
  • Must be able to read engineering drawings
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to adjust to the demands of the crane manufacturing industry
  • Must have manual dexterity with ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and good eye coordination.
  • Perform any other duties which may be assigned based on the company’s requirements
  • Must be a team player willing to assist and help fellow colleagues
  • Work assignment must be carried out to the highest quality standards
  • Ensure that the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
  • Applicant must be reliable, committed, dedicated with excellent communication skills
  • Applicant must adhere to all Masco's Health & Safety practices, including working safely, the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHS), observing all safety rules to provide a safe place for all employees, and maintaining high hygiene standards at all times.
  • This is a long term permanent full-time position

Preference will be given to candidates with the following Certifications: CWB Certified Welder, First Aid and WHIMIS
