WHAT WE DO:

Our services cover a wide range of surveying and engineering disciplines, including legal/cadastral surveying, construction/engineering surveying, aerial mapping (RPAS), and foreshore surveys. We are also expanding our operations with the potential establishment of a Mapping division to support our RPAS services and datasets.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Watson & Barnard is seeking a motivated Land Surveyor in Training (LST) to join our growing team. This position is ideal for recent graduates from accredited geomatics programs or individuals who have completed a Certificate of Completion from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors. The LST will work under the supervision of a practicing land surveyor, gaining hands-on experience while preparing for professional registration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct field surveys for a variety of land surveying projects.
  • Utilize advanced surveying equipment such as Leica Total Stations, Leica Scanning Total Station, Leica Robotic Controllers, Leica RTK GNSS units, and Leica Digital Levels.
  • Assist in the preparation and verification of legal survey plans and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members to ensure project tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, and calculations.
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance.
  • Contribute to the preparation of field project reports as required for your professional articles.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of best practices in land surveying.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree in Geomatics, Geomatics Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or a Certificate of Completion from the Canadian Board of Examiners for Professional Surveyors.
  • Eligibility to register as a Land Surveyor in Training in British Columbia.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in the use of surveying equipment and software, including GPS, total stations, and AutoCAD.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
  • Physical ability to work in various outdoor environments and conditions.
