Full job description

SUMMIT, An Earth Services Company is seeking a highly motivated hydrogeologist to join the Corporate Integration and Special Projects Division as a Hydrogeologist (Competition #24-01-0653) This is a full-time field position based out of our Calgary, AB office.

What to Expect:

As a hydrogeologist you will be exposed to project management, leading field investigations, proposal writing, data interpretation and client liaison. You will lead and support the design and implementation of water resources studies, surface water and groundwater evaluations, and contaminated sites investigations working as part of a team with Junior and Senior Hydrogeologists and other scientists within the organization.

You will be part and young and vibrant organization which consists of a dynamic team of Professional Hydrogeologists, Engineers, Geologists, Biologists, Chemists and Agrologists, technical administrators, business development and health and safety professionals, with an in-house IT department.

Job Duties:

You will carry out your duties for groundwater remediation and water resources integration. The primary duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct field investigations including drilling and monitoring well installations, aquifer testing programs, surface water and groundwater flow modelling, hydrochemical evaluations and surface water and soil sampling

  • Oversee drilling and excavation programs, drive point installation and sampling

  • Manage soil, groundwater and surface water quality data and reporting

  • Complete data analysis which may include hydraulic conductivity tests, pump tests, and water quality and database compilation

  • Support in the preparation of water resources, EPEA annual groundwater monitoring, Phase 1 and Phase 2 studies, remediation reports, and water resources evaluations

  • Support execution of field scopes, proposal and report writing

Qualifications:

  • University degree or diploma from a recognized institution preferably with a M.Sc. in hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, environmental engineering, or geosciences

  • 3-5 years of consulting or industry experience in hydrogeology

  • Data processing, scripting in Python, RStudio, PHREEQC, Aqtesolv and FEFLOW

  • Eligible to register as in geoscientist or engineer in training with APEGA

  • Project management, budgeting, driving licence, safety awareness

  • Proficient with Alberta and Saskatchewan regulations and guidelines related to surface reclamation

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project team environment
