Full job description

Yama Vans is Canada's industry-leading adventure van manufacturer. We specialize in building custom, professionally designed adventure vans that are finely tuned for off-grid, year-round travel. We're looking to add a skilled CNC Operator to our production team.

This role is ideal for someone who takes ownership of their work area and brings real judgment to the job, not just button-pushing. You'll be responsible for the full CNC workflow: loading material, running cuts on our CNC router, and finishing each part to the standard it needs before it moves downstream.

Because our parts vary, you'll need to understand what you're cutting and why, and make smart decisions about how to finish each piece accordingly. This is a great opportunity for a woodworker who enjoys leveraging technology to achieve high-precision results.

As a CNC Operator, you'll be responsible for:

  • Setting up jobs and programming toolpaths from DXF files using VCarve
  • Nesting parts efficiently on sheets and cross-referencing cutlists
  • Operating the machine: loading sheet material, running cuts, and unloading finished parts
  • Finishing CNC output using routers, sanders, and hand tools, using judgment to determine the right finish for each part
  • Following the production schedule and organizing your work around what materials are being cut that day
  • Maintaining inventory of select recurring parts cut on the machine
  • Performing routine machine maintenance and keeping your work area clean and organized

Requirements

  • Experience in cabinetry, woodworking, or CNC operation is a strong asset. Graduates or students from Cabinetmaking / Woodworking programs are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with VCarve is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret CNC files, toolpaths, and cutlists
  • Comfortable with hand and power finishing tools (router, sander, etc.)
  • Logical, organized, and able to manage your own workflow within a production schedule
  • Able to comfortably handle full 18mm sheet panels
  • Strong attention to detail and high standards of quality
  • Team-oriented, self-motivated, and reliable

As the first step in our hiring process, we ask all candidates to submit a short video introduction (around 2–3 minutes total) answering the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in working at Yama Vans?
  • Please describe your relevant woodworking, school, or CNC experience.
  • Tell us about one of the biggest mistakes you've made at work (or in the shop) that affected other people. How did you handle it?
  • If you had to pick one thing that you're best at (e.g., software nesting, hand-finishing, troubleshooting, or just being highly organized), what would it be?

To apply: Please email your resume along with a file or link to your video to: apply.cnc@yamavans.odoo.com

We're a small, tight-knit team that values quality, humility, collaboration, and personal growth. If you're excited by what we do and feel this role is a good fit, we'd love to hear from you.
