The Emergency Communication Officer is a key role in Dispatch Services and reports directly to the Deployment Supervisor of Dispatch Services. This position is responsible and accountable for providing safe and effective emergency medical call taking and dispatch services in one of three dispatch centres in the province. This includes support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities will also include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is responsible and accountable for making key decisions and contributing to the achievement of the goals of the EMS dispatch process. The Emergency Communication Officer, EMS Dispatch will develop and maintain EMS dispatch skills in order to provide dispatch services for the AHS.
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) with Medical Priority Dispatch (MPD) is a minimum requirement, applicants without EMD certification will be considered. Successful applicants will need to obtain EMD certification within a specified time.
Additionally supported by Grade 12 or General Equivalence Diploma(s).
A demonstrated clear pattern of professional development.
Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
Successful completion of a post-secondary communications program is preferred.
Must possess or obtain valid CPR certification (Level C)
