The Undercover Unit of the Special Investigations and Forensic Services Section is looking for a Special Investigator who will be responsible for planning, developing and conducting Fish and Wildlife undercover investigations in support of the branch's provincial compliance assurance program. The Special Investigator, independently, and in conjunction with a team, conducts complex undercover investigations in response to extensive illegal activities that negatively impact resources on a Provincial, National and International scale. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of the relationship between the branch and other organizations, departments and agencies, combined with an ability to work collaboratively to meet objectives. Knowledge of specialized investigative techniques, applicable provincial and federal Acts along with other related statues affecting investigations is required to perform the role. Highly developed communication skills, the ability for prompt decision-making and the skills to lead and be part of a team are essential to the role.
This position is required to travel on short notice throughout the province for extended time periods to complete the assigned duties. This position requires evening, weekend and shift work.
A related applied degree in conservation law enforcement or natural resource management with considerable related experience, or a technical diploma in natural resource management or related field with extensive related experience. The successful completion of a nationally recognized covert training program would be considered an asset. Preference will be given to those with progressively responsible supervisory experience. Equivalencies will be considered.
$2,349.69 to $3,022.94 bi-weekly
Final candidates for this position will undergo a medical assessment psychological assessment and security screening. Candidates must be eligible for appointment as an Alberta Peace Officer and possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License. This competition may be used to fill current and future vacancies across the Government of Alberta. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification level and salary.
