Immediate opening for an ambitious, dependable, well-organized, detail-oriented and diligent individual to work with Publisher and Editor, as a Part-Time Managing Editor.

This is an unpaid position offering excellent experience for a unique individual on a writing, research or editorial career path. After an initial 3-month period, the internship has the potential to become a paid position, but there are no guarantees in this regard.

The internship is an exceptional opportunity to be on the ground-floor of a publication that will be highly influential in the solar energy sector in 2011, learn about the solar industry, develop high-level contacts, and get solid experience.

The monthly Ontario Solar Report is an e-report centralizing critical market intelligence for the booming solar industry in Ontario. The first edition - about to be released - brings together various experts, key business information, agency updates, and interviews.

As managing editor, you will be responsible for managing a 10+ writers and editors, and seeking new ones. The position involves many skills, from reporting, to writing, to editing, but the most important skill is the ability to be graciously persistent in soliciting and bringing together articles from various experts, all of them busy, volunteer, guest writers, to produce a first class report - on a monthly basis, with guidance and support from the publisher and editor.

Specific responsibilities include setting up and distributing writing/editing schedules on a weekly basis, attending industry events, searching news alerts for material to be covered , and delegating and following up on writing assignments - all to ensure the timely publication of the high quality report.

In addition, the managing editor will respond to writers' and editors' questions, monitor post-publication online comments to the articles, respond to general inquiries, and be available for general troubleshooting.

Hours:
Hours of work are flexible, and the managing editor can work from home, a coffee shop, or our offices in Markham and Downtown Toronto. The managing editor should be available 3-4 hours each day for managing assignments and to be able to check email periodically throughout the day. In total, the managing editor will be expected to work about 15-20 hours per week.

Job Qualifications:
Applicants for this internship should have excellent organizational skills, experience with leading a team, be able to work independently, and possess a history of strong academic performance (3.4 GPA minimum). Experience writing or editing is a plus, but is not required. Applicants must have access to a computer with Internet access.
