Skill Requirements:
Education: Some High School

Credentials: Driver’s License (Class 1 or A), Airbrakes (Z) Endorsement, Extended Trailer Combination Permit or Endorsement, Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) Certificate, Professional Driver Improvement Certificate

Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years

Languages: Speak English, Read English, Write English

Type of Trucking and Equipment: Straight Truck (6400 kg + or 10,000 lbs + with 3 plus axles), Tractor-trailer, Tractor-trailer A-train, Tractor-trailer B-train, Extended length tractor-trailer combination, Van, Refrigerated, Dry Bulk

Type of Travel: Short haul, Long haul, Local, Regional, Provincial/Territorial

Documentation Knowledge: Driver log book, Bill of lading, Inspection Report (pre-trip, en route, post-trip), Maintenance and Repair reports, Trip reports, accident and incident reports, dangerous good occurrence reports,

Communication Equipment Experience: Trip recorder (on board computer), Citizen band (CB) radio, cellular phone, satellite tracking (GPS) equipment

Weight Handling: Up to 23 kgs (50 lbs)

Specific Skills:
Operate and Drive straight or articulated trucks to transport good and materials, Loading and unloading of goods, tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo, plan travel schedules and routes, Use atlases and other trip planning aids, Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Transport hazardous product or dangerous goods, Pay and receive payments for goods, Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, Perform brake adjustments, monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness, Perform preventative maintenance,

Additional Skills:
Mountain driving expertise, Professionalism in customer service, Handle inquiries from customers, owner-operator business skills, Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques

Security and Safety:
Basic security clearance, Criminal record check, Driving road check (Abstract), Medical exam, Drug test

Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding

Transportation/Travel Information: Willing to travel for extended periods, willing to travel overnight, valid driver’s license, travel expenses paid by employer, Public transportation is not available
