The Position –Insurance Consultant, Insurance Services
This position reports to the Director, Insurance Services and plays a key role within a small team of professionals managing general insurance services to AUMA members.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary insurance brokerage, AMSC Insurance Services Limited, the AUMA provides its member municipalities and associate members with the opportunity to purchase various general insurance products. Some of these products are provided through MUNIX, an insurance reciprocal operated and managed by AMSC, while others are sub-brokered through outside brokers. AMSC is responsible for all servicing, underwriting, claims management and risk management activities related to all products purchased or accessed by the members. Participation in these programs is voluntary, but 80% of AUMA members have already chosen to participate in at least one of the insurance or benefit programs.
Purpose of the Position
This position will:
Ensure AUMA members are receiving timely and accurate responses to all enquiries, which are dealt with in a professional and courteous manner with a consideration for mutual cooperation, conflict resolution and problem solving and an emphasis on creating strong working relationships.
Ensure all accounts are underwritten and structured with full regard to risk and profitability and that any risk management issues are addressed in conjunction with the member’s participation along with other members of the Risk and Insurance teams as required.
Communicate the benefits and attributes of the AMSC program to all members and potential members and address any areas for growth in the member’s insurance portfolio.
Assist in identifying internal office procedures, policy issues and manuals for recommendation to improve monitoring and standards of the customer service center.
Support the Director as a recognized professional within the team and assist in additional tasks related, but not limited to; the general insurance program renewal, workshops programs and other presentation material, marketing and procurement of excess and other coverage’s, and member on-site visits.

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide timely and effective support to AUMA members and prospects, as suggested by but not limited to the following principal duties:
Customer Support, Relationship Management and Development
Prioritize members’ needs in order to work most effectively for their benefit.
Complete ongoing enrollment and adjustments, responses to participants’ enquiries regarding scope and coverage, and identification of emerging or changing needs.
With the assistance of other staff, implement and maintain a mechanism to provide effective and timely responses to requests for information or new business quotations received from insurance prospects.
Support the development and implementation of an overall marketing strategy for the insurance program, including as appropriate direct participation in high profile AUMA events like the annual convention and regional workshops.
Provide information derived during the underwriting process to the Director that may be of interest in the development of loss prevention and risk management initiatives.
Analyze and evaluate risks for new and existing business to which members may be exposed
Ensure that members’ concerns are dealt with in a timely manner
Participate in the Advisory Committee by researching and presenting information relevant to the ongoing needs and changes of our membership
Understand and respond to member needs through a variety of communication offering a high level of professional service and advice
Information System Development and Management
Collect, edit, report, enter and run reports with member data and other confidential or sensitive material with a high degree of proficiency and an attention to detail.
Use established dashboards and reporting structures to provide information necessary to servicing members’ needs as well aiding in facilitating other requests from Management.
Manage information, forms requests and other data required by partners and other service providers.
Financial Management Practices and Processes
As required, participate in the information management and reporting processes needed to ensure the fiscal integrity of the insurance program.
Work with management to ensure that all relevant external agencies receive the information they need, in a format and within time frames acceptable to them.
Work with Finance department to ensure that all accounting transactions and other financial details are up to date and accurate.
Where able, act as a resource for other members of the insurance team to help facilitate the growth and positive development of the whole team.
Complete customer service and other updates for the MUNIX/AMSC board meetings as requested by the Executive.
Work in collaboration with management to ensure fulfillment of action plans
Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing and legal requirements
Perform member visits
Indentify internal office procedures, policy issues, and manual for recommendation to Director to improve monitoring and standards for customer service
Develop and maintain effective ongoing relationships with the members
High school graduate
Proficient in Microsoft Office, basic accounting and related processes
Must hold or be eligible to obtain a Level 2 Alberta General Insurance Agents License
Completion of the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), and/or Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation or working towards it.
Post-secondary education is an asset
Experience in commercial underwriting, account management, account executive or combination thereof
Knowledge of Commercial Insurance coverage including specialty coverage such as Professional Liability, Directors & Officers Liability, Environmental Impairment Liability and Aviation
A working knowledge of basic insurance underwriting principles
Ability to manage and service a substantial portfolio of small to large commercial accounts
Direct significant experience in the customer interface portion of delivery of general insurance services
Proven ability to build effective relationships
Well-developed communication and relationship management skills
Business development and/or marketing experience an asset
