About LLoydminster, AB
Lloydminster (Population as of 2009: 26,502) is a city that has the unusual geographic distinction of straddling two provinces: Alberta and Saskatchewan, in the Central Parkland Region. This geographical region consists of aspen woodlands, fescue grasslands, shrublands and wetlands on gently rolling landscape. It is located 251 km east of Edmonton, AB and 275 km west of Saskatoon, SK on the Yellowhead Highway # 16.
In April, 1903 with the arrival of the Barr colonists, approximately 2600 people from England settled in the Lloydminster area. As Canada's only border city, Lloydminster was located on the 4th Meridian in the Northwest Territories; it was divided in two in 1905 when Alberta and Saskatchewan's boundary was selected at the 4th Meridian. Alberta incorporated it as a village July 6th 1906, and Saskatchewan incorporated it as a town in April 1907. Approximately 65.6% of the population live in Alberta and 34.4% live in Saskatchewan; 50% of the population is under the age of 30.
Today, Lloydminster is proud of their unique city and surrounding region, their facilities and the hospitality make visitors feel welcome; take time to enjoy all that they have to offer.
