The Unix Systems Administrator supports the backend infrastructure in the Critical Mass Unix environment. This role requires a motivated and personable individual willing to learn all aspects of supporting our dynamic environment. The Unix Systems Administrator is an integral part of our IT team and helps us to uphold our strict standards in end user support.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate in System and Network Design
Pro-actively monitor our server infrastructure for operational issues/problems and resolve as necessary
Maintain our Oracle infrastructure running Solaris ? Administer systems in our Canadian, US and UK locations
Maintain the interoperability of our Unix systems with Mac and Windows clients
Responsible for monitoring daily server backups and resolve any issues/problems
Responsible for building servers in compliance with best practices
Project related work and documentation
Required Skills:
BSc in Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills ? 2-3 years experience with UNIX (Solaris)
Linux experience is a nice to have
Competent with administering UNIX sub-systems like DNS, SMTP, filesystems, deployment, patching
Virtualization (zones, Vmware)
Ability to work with little supervision
Ability to produce systems documentation
