Senior Engineer, Electrical

Located 300 km northeast of Yellowknife in Canada's Northwest Territories, Diavik has been an open-pit mine since 2003, extracting diamonds from beneath the lake bed at Lac de Gras. The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing leadership and direction in electrical engineering support services site-wide to ensure DDMI and Rio Tinto best practice and to provide Electrical Standards Solutions support to businesses, capital and operations sustainable projects to ensure compliance with regulations and standards and achieve safety of people and assets.
Serve as a technical authority and resource for electrical engineering site wide.
Take ownership and administer Rio Tinto and DDMI site standards, and coordinate relevant regulations and standards including NWT Mine Health & Safety Act, CSA-M421-00 Use of Electricity in Mines, Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA 70e, IEEE, Rio Tinto C2 Electrical Safety, DDMI C.1 Isolation and Electrical Competency Standards.
Provide support to departments, plants and projects to comply with standards.
Provide input to projects at preliminary design, design, construction and commissioning to ensure conformance to Rio Tinto and DDMI standards.
Review electrical content of new/capital facilities and project plans (error-proofing, standards conformance, power availability and protection impact assessment, and design sign off drawings.
Transformer and sign off drawings.
Review operations sustainable and improvement projects involving power.
Prepare and administer the site electrical quality management plan.
Serve as the Focal Point for electrical inspector/regulatory agency liaison.
Formulate, update and guide policy on electrical engineering, including deployment of new technologies.
Ensure update of As-Built Electrical Single Line Drawings by project engineers - DDMI or contractor.
Provide direction, guidance and support electrical staff, consultants and contractors engaged on DDMI assignments.
Coordinate Electrical Standards Assurance Committee.
Coordinate power system modeling, protection coordination, reliability studies, load flow studies and grounding integrity.
Inspect and audit facilities and equipment, and review operating and maintenance practices to identify potential problems, ensure standards, as well as best practices in safety, energy efficiency and asset management.
Coordinate training programmes for electrical personnel site wide.
Expand position-relevant knowledge and skills through continuing self-directed or employer-sponsored professional development.
Participate in the budgeting processes annually or when required, providing accurate cost estimates by specified dates for the development of the budgets.
Supervise the electrical engineering group.
