Our client is on a talent search to find a seasoned Art Director with 7 or more years who has a flare for bold, fun, innovative design. This person must have previous national consumer magazine experience.
This publication is a multiplatform consumer brand by Canada's leading content creation company. It inspires women and men with information and ideas for living a full, healthy life through a magazine, a website, enewsletters, a tablet app and social media.
The Brand Goal:
Make it easy to link food to good health from the grocery aisle to the table with versatile, convenient, delicious ideas.
Our target is well-educated, English-speaking Canadian families.
What you will do:
Work with the Brand Director and Content Director on the creation of all elements of branding and content.
Grow the brand identity & continue to push boundaries to engage and expand the community
Oversee all development and production (including planning, photography, design, production) of 6 issues of print per year and regular builds/enhancements to the site and enewsletters
Oversee all page design and develop visual concepts for approval of the Content Director.
Participate and lead planning, strategy, post-op and brainstorming meetings with the team
Hire and work with freelance resources including photographers, videographers, illustrators and animators under set fees and terms.
Direct and/or assign direction of photo shoots in conjunction with editorial goals set out by the Content Director.
Support design and production of any promotional materials
Necessary Skills:
Ability to produce multimedia content (print, website, enewsletter, video) and marketing collateral;
Excellent skills in developing a brand and keeping it consistent across media.
Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment, team skills, creativity and openness, relationship building skills, ability to multi task, strong prioritization skills
Knowledge:
Hands-on knowledge of consumer content design, strong knowledge of Adobe CS3 software. Experience with translating a brand's look and feel from print to digital is an important asset.
Strong leadership and vision to guide freelancers, studios, and in-house teams
Good network of photographers, stock images, illustrators
Education:
Diploma/degree in design training or equivalent.
Experience:
7 or more year's experience in magazine editorial art direction; experience or keen interest in learning to:
Design for an iPad
Work with videographers
