Reporting to the General Manager, Canadian Nitrogen Operations and functioning as a member of the Wholesale HR team located throughout North America, this position operates with a high degree of autonomy in supporting business leaders at Redwater Fertilizer Operations and Canadian Nitrogen Operations.

Specific responsibilities will include:
Implementing company and business unit HR strategies, programs and processes (e.g., Performance Management Process, orientation and compensation and benefit programs).

Providing expertise, guidance and coaching to leaders in managing highly sensitive and complex employee relations matters, including performance management, disability management, compensation and org effectiveness.

Participating with senior function/location leaders in strategic meetings.

Proactively analyzing and identifying complex function/location people issues and trends in the context of site/function/SBU business strategy and recommending appropriate actions.

Partnering with senior function/location leaders in initiating workforce planning and developing annual staffing plans.

Identifying the need for support from the Corporate HR Centres of Excellence.

Anticipating training/development needs, developing plans/programs, and then coordinating implementation within the client group in Partnership with the Learning and Development organization.

Supporting leaders in proactive management of the annual compensation cycle as well as managing ongoing compensation and progression issues.

Consulting on business effectiveness projects, as required (e.g., structural re-organizations or business process improvements)

Acting as a change agent and managing change related to site/function/SBU specific initiatives. Acts as a coach and provides guidance to the Alberta Plant Managers

Supporting continuous improvement in transactional work conducted by the HR Service Centre.

Supporting hourly compensation and benefits

Building capacity of the business line HR Team through leadership, coaching and mentoring HR Business Advisors day-to-day activities, establishing goals and aligning resourcing and performance to meet business priorities.

Provides guidance regarding HR compliance and best practices

Qualifications of the position include:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and working experience).

At least 10 years of previous HR generalist experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.

Human resource professional certification preferred.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Strong coaching, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills, and demonstrated ability to influence.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong results/goal orientation.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles.

Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions, and exercise judgment on sensitive/ confidential issues.

Redwater Fertilizer Operations occupies 372 hectares along the North Saskatchewan River and directly employs over 400 people, in Nitrogen Operations, Phosphate Operations, Maintenance, Product Loading, Services and Administration.
