The Communications Advisor (Projects) will develop and implement communication strategies and plans for external and internal audiences, specifically around AltaLink’s new transmission projects. The externally-focused aspects of the advisor’s work will include supporting AltaLink’s business strategy by executing plans to enhance AltaLink’s external reputation. The successful candidate will also play a key role in helping Albertans understand AltaLink’s role in keeping the lights on. The employee communications aspects of the advisor’s work include developing communication plans and tactics to address specific issues and programs for internal audiences.
Responsibilities
External communication
Liaise with media regarding AltaLink projects
Develop and manage content for www.altalink.ca
Support the creation of landowner information packages for AltaLink’s major and standard transmission projects
Provide support to Manager, External Communications
Provide advice and input on external documents
Act as lead writer for various reports and other communications
Internal communication
Develop, and where appropriate, execute plans to ensure employee communications is accurate, relevant and timely
Establish and maintain effective working relationships internally – across department and geographic regions
Research, write and manage production of internal communications tools, including the AltaLink intranet
Provide research, writing and editing support as it pertains to internal initiatives
Qualifications
Degree or diploma in communications or public relations required
Minimum one to two years experience in a communications role (Equivalencies of experience and education will be considered)
Superior communication skills (both written and verbal), including solid creative writing and editing skills when dealing with sometimes highly technical topics
Strong knowledge of communication processes
Demonstrated ability in project management of communications initiatives
Experience in dealing with media representatives in urban and rural communities
Ability to translate technical information into easily understood language
Work effectively in team setting – value the ideas of others
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and carry projects through to completion within a changing environment, both independently and as a member of a team
Sound judgment in dealing with sensitive, and/or highly confidential information
Proven track record of good attendance and job performance
