Our private sector client is seeking an Intermediate Engineer for their MTO Group. This positions is located in Kingston but the right candidate could work from Ottawa or Toronto and travel to Kingston a few days a week.
Role and Responsibilities
Providing input into preparation of engineering service proposals;
Liaising with clients, government and/or regulatory bodies as well as contractors;
Assisting senior staff with engineering design on a variety of projects such as highway rehabilitation, passing lanes, structure rehabilitations, preliminary design, etc.
Overseeing the work of engineering interns and technologists and providing guidance and mentoring to more junior staff;
Preparing technical specifications and reports; and
Preparation of contract drawings, contract documents, and specifications for the design of highways, freeways, drainage features and structures
Qualifications and Experience
P.Eng. – must be able to stamp drawings
5-10 years of experience – must have 3-4 years of MTO preliminary or detail design experience
Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, CPS, HiCO, InRoads.
Knowledge of SAP 2000, Adobe Creative Suite, GIS would be considered an asset
Experience with all aspects of highway / freeway design (e.g. alignments, geometrics, staging, utilities, roadside safety, constructability)
General understanding of other road design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydrology design, traffic engineering, structural (bridge) engineering, environmental design / mitigation measures, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations and design, electrical engineering)
Able to estimate and track level of effort required in order to produce deliverables
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Detail-oriented with an ability to think through problems creatively
