We are currently looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental Director:
Reporting to the Vice President, Technical Operations, the Health, Safety & Environment Director will ensure respect for local regulatory standards as well as the Sandoz Global guidelines for health, safety and environment. He/she will ensure high standards for protecting health and safety on site. He/she will act as liaison officer with Sandoz Global HSE and Novartis Corporate HSE in relation to Canadian operations.
Summary of tasks:
Establish policies for occupational and environmental health and safety as well as the site’s targets, goals and objectives so that they are compliant with legal requirements and corporate standards, all the while ensuring a high level of safety for employees and the protection of the environment;
Establish the systems and processes that allow for the integration and management of health and safety in the daily management of the company’s operations;
Identify, assess and document the health, safety and environment risks for employees in the workplace and, as needed, recommend technical or organizational corrective actions or personal protection measures in cooperation with managers;
Provide professional and technical expertise, as well as direction in cooperation with operations managers to develop health, safety and environment programs while ensuring continuous improvement;
Preparing technical and regulatory information for the management team in order to ensure their understanding of HSE regulations affecting the organization; Act as an expert and resource person for questions regarding HSE; Continually identify improvements or modifications to make to existing programs with an eye to boosting the company’s HSE performance and compliance with regulations;
Follow up on work accidents/incidents, apply corrective measures with managers if necessary, and follow up on HR and CSST files if called for;
Interact with management at all levels in order to understand and resolve environmental or health and safety issues. Manage the creation of policies based on needs; Contact and negotiate with regulatory authorities on behalf of the organization;
Manage the company’s various health, safety and environment committees; Ensure training and communication with regard to health, safety and environment among employees;
Coordinate and manage various global committees such as NEM, BC, Flu Pandemic, Energy, Transportation, Biosafety, etc.;
Gather and analyze various data, information, audit follow-ups, risk portfolios, etc. related to health, safety and environment and provide various reports to Global as required according to the established deadlines. Minimum requirements Bachelor of science or engineering degree;
University certification in health, safety and environment an asset;
Seven (7) to ten (10) years' relevant experience in a similar role in pharmaceuticals or food manufacturing;
In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation;
Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel in a Windows environment;
Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written;
Attention to detail, organizational skills and insight;
Leadership, influence and persuasiveness;
Sense of priorities and focus on results;
Ability to work under pressure and with a sense of urgency.
