Our client, a well established specialty supermarket operation, seeks to engage a Grocery Buyer to work with its Grocery Manager / Replenishment at store level to ensure that the company maximizes buying opportunities while working within its inventory turn objectives.
The Buying Office must respond on a timely basis and reflect replenishment decisions that are made frequently and based on sku velocity and expected demand. The methodology employed enables our client to maintain excellent service levels across approximately 10,000 + sku's.
This is a unique position working with a proven methodology requiring an individual with strong analytical and management skills and a keen sense of attention to detail. Compensation for the right individual is very fair.
Respond to inventory replenishment needs brought forth by the Grocery Manager / Replenishment team on a timely basis.
Ensure vendor source of supply is reliable in terms of product quality and delivery enabling your store to maintain a satisfactory stock position on all sku's.
Understand and respond to vendor lead times as required to ensure an adequate supply of product.
Ensure vendors handle and credit damages and returned product on a regular cycle.
Ensure purchase decisions reflect store inventory need and vendor promotional and booking opportunities.
Ensure seasonal purchases are assessed and placed with the vendor on time for timely delivery.
Ensure that the "Grocery Manager / Replenishment" and management team are aware of new product launches / current promotions for inclusion in the store's assortment
Ensure that all purchasing paperwork is handled impeccably such that all goods arriving reflect purchase orders and amendments as required through normal business.
Ensure that all rebates and allowances are captured and processed and debits against suppliers properly prepared and forwarded internally to accounting.
Feed all competitive intelligence on pricing learned through vendors to the management team.
Participate in other store activity, as required, to ensure a productive and profitable retail operation.
5 years minimum buying experience in Canadian retail management - grocery a must.
A clear understanding of purchasing and its relationship to inventory turnover and inventory management.
Experience with seasonal purchasing cycles - in particular, lead times required to acquire goods and number of buying opportunities that will be available (vendor supply availability during the seasonal period).
Experience purchasing goods at the retail level from direct suppliers. This includes product reviews, sku rationalization, and negotiation on all factors affecting the store level acquisition cost.
Strong attention to detail.
A team player.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel.
Customer focused and able to nurture positive customer relationships.
Russian fluency is an asset.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
