NORR Architects Planners is a dedicated team of consulting professionals providing integrated architecture, landscape and urban planning services. NORR is a member of the Ingenium group, an employee-owned company, with affiliated offices across Canada, the US and select International locations.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Operations, the incumbent develops architectural designs including the revision of architectural design drawings and models under the direction of more senior design staff. The incumbent utilizes CADD and other relevant computer resources, researches building precedents, consults the building programme, building standards and product specification documents to prepare the drawings, schedules and other documents for review and approval by the more senior design staff. The incumbent ensures elements of design, modelling and detailing adhere to relevant jurisdictional codes and coordinates elements with the structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering designs. The incumbent may lead small, less complex projects or components of larger projects once concepts are determined by more senior designers.
We're Looking For:
An Architectural Designer who will be responsible for the following:
- Supports the project designer in the development of the architectural design, including reviewing the design requirements, the exploration of design options for components of the building and the development of presentation materials for internal and client presentations. May be involved in designing significant components of the overall building including integrating engineering disciplinesÂ’ requirements and adhering to applicable codes and jurisdictional requirements. May be the acting project designer on smaller projects.
- Attends team meetings as necessary to coordinate drawings, and provide information as required. May attend client meetings and may occasionally make client presentations.
- Utilizes CADD to draft design drawings and schedules following office standards including 3D models. Makes alterations to design drawings as directed by more senior staff. Provides direction to more junior staff.
- Performs design activities such as programming, code research, material and building systems research, laying out programme components and calculation of programme and building areas. Refines design options and develops building details.
- Coordinates with other disciplines and key stakeholders, as required, to exchange information.
- Utilizes industry best practices and established standards to ensure production adheres to corporate and professional expectation. May research new methods for review and acceptance by senior staff.
- Performs site surveys and field reviews to accurately document existing and new construction conditions when required. Evaluates site conditions zoning requirements and site constraints and other authorities having jurisdiction issues. May meet with authorities having jurisdiction to establish requirements and present design.
- Works with current design techniques, building systems, and keeps current with design trends, code changes, and developments to sustain and improve technical and design skills.
- Coordinates with other disciplines and key stakeholders, as required, to exchange information, provide project status updates, and coordinate resources.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education equivalent to a Bachelor of Architecture.
- Greater than six years but less than or equal to nine years architectural design experience.
- LEED®AP accreditation or other non-professional credentials are an asset.

- Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proof-reading is required.
