The University of Calgary is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Security Services Worker .
T his role will promote and facilitate a safe and secure learning and living environment at the University of Calgary. Patrol of University grounds and buildings to prevent and detect offences against persons and property. Respond to all emergency and routine situations. Establish and foster partnerships within the campus community and perform other duties as required while adhering to University policy and accepted guidelines.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Provide 24 hour point of contact on behalf of the University Campus Community.
Provide effective 24 hour mobile, foot, and bike patrol for University buildings and grounds.
Provide skilled operation of the 24 hour security dispatch centre and all specialized computer systems: (Simplex fire panel, DSX Access system, Phoenix Alarm system, Dispatch log, CATS).
Monitor CCTV cameras.
Provide immediate emergency response to all critical life safety situations on campus.
Direct and assist emergency personnel as required.
Initiate and maintain close working relationships with external agencies (Police, Fire, EMS)
Respond to all calls for general service / assistance on campus.
Provide 24 hour emergency contact for staff and students involved in international travel.
Identify potential infrastructure emergencies and initiate appropriate after-hours response of University personnel as required. (Flood, structural damage, building systems)
Qualifications / Requirements:
Candidate must be licensed under the Alberta Security Services and Investigator Act.
Completion of a two year diploma program in a social science or related discipline, and/or commensurate experience in the security industry or law enforcement.
Current level CPR and Standard First Aid Certificates.
Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators Licence with no current suspensions and presently no more than six (6) demerits.
No criminal convictions or charges pending. Candidates who proceed past the initial interview stage will be required to provide a criminal record search.
Physical fitness levels will be assessed using the Canadian Physical Activity Fitness and Lifestyle Appraisal (CPAFLA).
Experience with PPM2000 Perspective incident report writing software is desirable. Candidates should have an understanding of current security industry standards and practices.
Knowledge of the University and academic processes are an asset.
Candidates are highly organized with demonstrated problem solving, leadership and communication skills.
Successful candidates will be required to complete classroom training.
