There are 2 summer student positions available in the Field Operations (North) Department of AltaLink Management Ltd. for an Assistant SubstationTechnologist. This position will be assigned to the Substations team.
The Field Operations teams are responsible for executing the maintenance plans for all transmission facilities and equipment. These groups carry out all substation, protection and control (relay) and telecommunications maintenance in AltaLink's service areas. All work would be under the direct supervision of a Substation On Site Workleader. The successful candidate must be willing to work away from headquarters for periods of approximately one week (4 day work week) at a time. AltaLink will cover living expenses while away from operations headquarters . The successful candidate must also be willing to work overtime as requested by the technologist in charge.
Assist in general maintenance of substation equipment such as transformers, breakers, relays and substation buildings including:
Timing of breakers, transformer testing
Connecting and disconnecting power cables
Testing various protective relays, commissioning, wiring and verification of drawings
Work safely following all AltaLink Management and OH & S regulations
Asks questions and confirms understanding of assignments/directions
Maintain records and timesheets, as required
Assist with work requested by the technicians, and work as directed under the guidance of person in charge
1 year student, pursuing a dipolma in Electrical EngineeringTechnology at a recognized Technical Institute.
Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Able to work at heights and in adverse weather conditions.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
